Will not be surprised, and hoping for, G7XM3.

Ditto... I love my M2 hoping they go with a APC sensor and longer focal length without increasing the physical size. Is it possible to do?

I'm curious to see what the M50 looks like, as an alternative to the G5 X. I suppose the former won't be announced until CP+ in March, if then.

(Judging by the model name, I'm guessing that the M50 will be a lower featured, lower priced, version of the M5.)

And if they also release a G5 X II, so much the better. Choice is good.

Do we have to have ILC chat on the Powershot forum? All these EOS M bodies are really great but when are they going to get around to producing some lenses for the system?

Churning out bodies is an easy business as Sony show for aps-c in which they have absolutely no interest whatsoever.

G3X with a built-in EVF

It can be called G3X Mark II or G2X, similar to the EOS M5 vs M3.  Add a G1X III like built-in EVF to the superezoom G3X, I will buy one to replace my wife's SX40 HS.

Probably not possible- I think the g7x lens is already pushing the limits and you see that in its sharpness (or lack of in some situations). It is just a matter of physics and tradeoffs.

The g1x iii would be fairly close in size if it didn't have the viewfinder, but still is a bit bigger, and has less zoom reach. Panasonic's ZS100 has more zoom but a slower lens, and is still bigger than the g7x. Sony limited the rx100 series to a shorter reach to avoid such issues.

It will be hard to get much better than the G7x's sensor size and lens reach without getting much bigger, until a serious advance in technology comes along. Until then, everything will be baby steps.

Regarding the option of "Powershots are a dying line":

"For the full-year,..."

"For compact cameras, as we are exceeding our expectations mainly with G-series models, we raised our projection and now expect our sales to be down 1% to 4 million units." -Canon, October, 2017

I'd like to see a G5X -II. Although at this point I doubt I'd give up the M3 so that depends on price.  Which case we already have the suspicion they won't be more economical/ won't be under $700. The circular process is back to an M variant body. Canon' price tiers don't entice me in that regard.

It will never happen but I'd like to see an affordable small sensor compact with a lens that prioritises light gathering abilities instead of long zoom. A small built in EVF like the Panasonic TZ/ZS cameras have would be great too.

Why not just get a Panasonic FZ82? It is difficult to see how Canon could suddenly produce a camera with this technology and then at what price? Canon have struggled to get their old technology SX60 down to the opening price of the Panasonic. The G1X III could be a sign they have pretty much given up on contrast detect focusing having always been 2 years behind the opposition so unless they have a dual pixel 1/2.3" in the pipeline difficult to see much improvement in any area.

I also want that new G7X.  And I hope it's a G1XM3 with the viewfinder sliced off.  Gordon Laing has a short vlogging test on YouTube using the G1XM3.  The camera acquitted itself nicely.  The older G7X's seem to be very popular with vloggers.  If Canon could somehow get in the forefront and put a mic input on the new G7X, it would break new ground.  Lots of vloggers are getting good video, but they need a simple way for better sound.  That mic input would allow mics to be hung around necks or attached to shirts, protected from wind and extraneous noises around the camera.  Course that G1XM3 with the VF chopped off might run $1,000, but then again, that's what Sony is getting for the RX100 V.  I realize photographers want that VF, but I feel that all the videographers who want their stuff on YouTube are a growing breed - they don't have to have that VF.  They want something light and easy to hold.  Photographers, other than the billions with their phones, who want something that feels better than their phone and has the capability for more than their phone, do not seem to be growing by leaps and bounds - likely just the opposite.  I'm hoping Canon gets more into video, and gives Sony a run for the money in the small camera territory.  And lastly, I want 4K in that G7XM3, although that surely is asking for too much     john

Just give me an SX60 with a 50x zoom, Digic 7, and squeeze in a 1" sensor.  Thanks.

It will be interesting how they squeeze in the optics. It will be a G3X with double the focal length at full stretch. The aperture if it is say a rather slow f6.3 would still be a hefty 7 cms at the 440mm required. The RX10 IV is 5.5 cms if you want to see how big a lens gets at these apertures and that is f4 at 220mm focal length.

A revival of the 1/1.7" sensor could produce an interesting camera though.

I really don't do lens design but I know what I want and I know Canon can do it.  If the sensor must be 1/1.7" I will accept that.  Small sensors are getting better with the cell phone market driving progress so even the best 1/2.5 sensor will do if really pressed.  Just give me what I want and at a super good price.  Not asking for much.

So an SX60 with Digic 7... As even 1/2.5" is acceptable. I think you will get your wish at some point.

The manufacturers are so focused on cutting costs that I can't imagine any new "non-standard" sensors anytime soon. Its all about sharing parts not just across models, but across brands. They will likely be sticking to 1/2.3, 1", and aps-c for the foreseeable future. That's why Canon sacked the 1.5" sensor. Even m4/3 with its multiple brands struggles to keep up,  which is why you see very long sensor lifespans in their system- Olympus has been using practically the same 16mp sensor since 2012, because they need to suck every last bit they can out of each cycle to cover the development costs.
