Whats good price for em1 used with 2000 clicks?

Im trying to get out of one of my a6000s (have 2 in the family) as I want the lens ecology of m43 and its either a gh5 which i cant afford or an em1 for action.

Camerastoretv had them

fuji xt1

em1

a6000

gh4

in that order for action in their tests, but all were very close. i like hybrid focus, i just trust it as its what im use to since coming out of film.

i have an em1 with 2000 clicks, with its original box for $580usd. Is that a bad price?

Fujifilm X-T1 Olympus E-M1 Panasonic GH5 Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH4 Sony a6000

I've seen them a little cheaper, but it's not a bad price for such a low click count.

Re: Whats good price for em1 used with 2000 clicks?

Its so hard for me because I love focus tracking and I feel the em1 might not be quick enough compared to the mark 2?

how does the hybrid system work on the e-m1?

its either this camera or fuji for me. the fuji has the best zoom lenses in mirrorless land but olympus is very close behind imo. fuji doesnt havt ibis in the camera i want. my a6000 is fast but doesnt have the zoom lens quality i want for walk around ie 12-40 f2.8.

That’s in the ballpark. I sold my E-M1 for $500 to a friend, but with a higher shutter count ( over 10,000)

I bought one on Ebay with a similar count for $400. They are there if one is patient.

Who told you this? Fuji are just as limited for zooms. I shot Fuji, XT1 and xpro1, for 2 years before switching to M43.  I had the reasonable 55-200 zoom, which is a very good lens, but the Panasonic and Olympus 100-300/75-300 are better when you consider the drop factor.  If you're talking higher level then the Olympus 40-150 2.8 with the TC is as good as you'll get on any system, the Panasonic 100-400 is also amazing.

If you're talking shirt zooms the Olympus 12-40 2.8 is as good as any Fuji pro zoom too.

$580 for essentially a new E-M1 sounds fair to me, provided it's complete with all the accessory bits.

It's exhaustingly complex to run down all the AF modes, as they differ between native m4/3 and adapted 4/3 lenses, which are one of the E-M1's biggest attractions. I believe E-M1.1 C-AF with m4/3 is hybrid PDAF+CDAF while pure PDAF with 4/3. I'm stiff sifting through setting up the E-M1ii, but know it's a bit different in how it executes C-AF.

E-M1i m4/3 C-AF with the Pro lenses is quite good and achieves 9fps. I've used them a ton for sports for several years. I don't know Fuji from fudge but if they have a zoom as good as the 40-150 Pro then they should be very happy, indeed. If they have a tele prime like the 300 Pro then they should be stiff competition (although I can't imagine using this lens without the hybrid IS.

The Mkii, while still new to me is a distinctly better camera but that doesn't render the mki moot or obsolete.

Note: I'm limiting myself here to C-AF because I've barely used C-AF+tr and can't comment on its overall usefulness.

Good luck!

Rick

Keep in mind where I live there are 4 million people at the bottom of the world, no Ebay.

People usually try to see their stuff for 90% of its new price on our local second hand goods site (and they sit there for months).

The hybrid focus on the em1.1 only works on c-af correct? where it works differently on the em1.2?

I think i have this right, but gladly accept any corrections from others:

E-M1.1--m4/3 lenses, hybrid PDAF-CDAF in C-AF, CDAF only in S-AF.

E-M1.2--m4/3 lenses, PDAF only in C-AF, hybrid AF in S-AF. Here's a direct reference.

The mk1 PDAF array is smaller, only 37 phase-detect sensors arrayed in a diamond pattern, the mk2 has 121 in a rectangle covering most of the image, and they're cross-type.

As to used pricing it's absolutely localized (whatever the market allows) but even in the States, $550 isn't bad for a mint used $1400 camera. If it were obsolete, that would be high but the camera is still relevant to many of us.

Good luck!

Re: Whats good price for em1 used with 2000 clicks?

Thanks guys, I think the em1.2 is getting to the type of camera Im after in m43. low light focus tracking. i rely on hybrid in sony and nikon, both perform FAST.

But Oly has the f2.8 pro lens system.

So perhaps I could get the em.1 and try to stay in C-AF, its not going to hurt anything right?

if i want to go to 300mm, which is the best bang for buck in m43? I had the 100-300 with my gx85 before I returned it. it was great on a tripod, but not so much handheld, perhaps it was the cdaf i dont know. but if oly has a good version id prefer to stay all oly. although i do like the look of the pana 35-100 f2.8, it could be a start before getting the 40-150 oly. i try to wait for used items to pop up.

ive considered trying to import via ebay, i just dont know how safe a lens is sent internationally, i guess companies do it so if the person isnt a douche, it should be ok.....

Re: Whats good price for em1 used with 2000 clicks?

The description of the different Af methods seems right to me. The Mark II is certainly a better camera but the Mark I is still very effective. Until I complete my changeover from FT to MFT lenses Im going to hold off on the Mark II.

I was actually considering buying a second Mark I as an extra body, prices on eBay have been in the $450- 550 for completed auctions.

Re: Whats good price for em1 used with 2000 clicks?

thats good to know im in about the right price especially in a small market and the camera being as new condition.

if i wanted to shoot a subject, i dont plan on spraying like i do with the a6000, i know i can rely on its hybrid.

does the em1.1 use hybrid ever? or just pdaf in afc?

i plan to use short sprays, 3 shots etc.

in the em10.3 review i saw with the tennis they used AF-S with cluster, i thought maybe i could use AF-C with cluster?

Folks seem pretty happy with the Oly 75-300, provided there's good light. The 100-400 and 300 Pro are in another league altogether but much bigger investments. For the E-M1 adapting a 4/3 50-200/2.8-3.5 is a viable option and the EC14 TC takes it to 283mm. Could be hard to find one at this point, though.

You might look at used gear from the good US retailers like KEH and B&H, who are well versed shipping internationally. ebay is such a crapshoot but quite few folks here use it to buy from ebay stores based in Japan, Hong Kong and the like that have long sales histories.

Cheers,

Rick

Sorry which lens bran is the 50-200?

I was actually intending on using an oly tcon 1.7 on some of the lenses if possible. this is what i do with the budget 55-210 sony and it doesnt impact IQ at all.

clearly needs a step up ring, but any reason why this couldnt work?

ive seen guys use it on the panasonic 100-300....

Re: Whats good price for em1 used with 2000 clicks?

I think the Mark I  uses hybrid for CAF with MFT  lenses, PDAF only for four third lenses, and CDAF for SAF with mft lenses. This is what Rick ( Skeeterbytes) just related and what I remember. I just don't have the energy to dive into the manual.

Re: Whats good price for em1 used with 2000 clicks?

I unearthed a mk1 specs page that clears it up.

High-speed imager AF*1 / Single AF (S-AF), Continuous AF (C-AF), Manual Focus (MF), S-AF + MF, AF tracking (C-AF + TR)*2

  • 1: Imager Contrast AF, Imager On-chip Phase Detection AF used together (Operates as On-chip Phase Detection AF when a Four Thirds lens is attached (the separately-sold mount adapter is required)).
  • 2: Operates as MF during movie recording when a Four Thirds lens is attached.

Not covered in the manual anywhere I can see. No wonder there's a market for instruction books covering these things.

Cheers,

Rick

Re: Whats good price for em1 used with 2000 clicks?

Yes as I just red the em1.1 only uses PDAF in AFC. So does it use hybrid or not, according to this it thinks its pdaf is faster than hybrid systems.....

Re: Whats good price for em1 used with 2000 clicks?

Yes it appear the .2 uses hybrid like an a6000 or dslr.

https://mirrorlesscomparison.com/olympus-vs-olympus/omd-em1-vs-omd-em1-ii/2/

The .1 only uses hybrid in this situation "With 4/3 lenses, phase detection is used in S-AF too."

Re: Whats good price for em1 used with 2000 clicks?

It seems like there are people in the m43 world who dont get b... hurt over the truth :-). In seriousness, this is EXACTLY why this camera stands out to me.

"Continuous Autofocus and Tracking

This is the most important upgrade for two reasons: first, Micro Four Thirds users were waiting for a camera with superior AF capabilities to take better advantage of all the new lenses designed for sports and wildlife photography. Second, other mirrorless competitors such as Sony and Fujifilm have made excellent improvement in the past year, so of course, people are curious to compare systems."

Yes the .2 is a much bigger step in the right direction, but in his photos it appears the .1 still handles its own with mostly keepers using the smallest focus point possible.

Those soccer photos on both cameras look delicious.
