EOS M10 convert to IR

EOS M10 is dirt cheap at the moment in the Netherlands, EUR 199 (body only). I'm considering buying one to have it converted to IR.

Any thoughts about this, pros, cons?

This has been something on my list for a long time to have a camera converted. How much have you been quoted to do the IR on the M10?

No quote yet. Lifepixel does this for USD 275. Perhaps I can have it done locally but I must still check pricing and conditions.

Re: EOS M10 convert to IR

When I bought my M5 I had my original M converted by Life Pixel (720nm) and am delighted with it.

On a recent trip to the Grand Canyon the air quality was so bad I couldn't shoot with the M5 (or my 6D for that matter) but got some brilliant stuff with the converted M.

Go for it...

Thanks for your reply JD. Which lenses did you use/did you get best pictures with? It seems that some lenses are better for IR than others due to vignetting and uneven IR trnsparency in general.

Re: EOS M10 convert to IR

After upgrading to an M5, I had my M3 converted to IR by LifePixel. As far as I'm concerned, it was a great move. I can now use the IR-converted M3 exactly the same way I used it before the conversion, only I get cool IR images. The exposures are essentially the same, and I can use all of the lenses that I use for the M5. I haven't noticed any problems with either vignetting or uneven exposure with any of my lenses.

You could try Astronomiser (http://www.astronomiser.co.uk/index.htm) in England. Although it's not a listed model he did a very good astro conversion on my original M and also does full-spectrum mods too. He's very reasonably priced and there would be no problems with transatlantic shopping and customs duties.

Whoops, I assumed you're European based.  The economics are probably completely different outside the EU.

Re: EOS M10 convert to IR

You're right, I'm living in the Netherlands. I have to check European suppliers, though Lifepixel seems to be very experienced in this modification.
