I had no inlogging before on my laptop, then I did some changes, mayby filled a formuler, then suddenly when I open my laptop, it asks me log in. How I get rid of this, I have Win 8.

What I find out, there is so called local account, shall I change actual account to that or how I should do, jouni

Don't know what you did, but it's always safer to have a log-in. Does it require a password? If so, you must have set it up when you acquired the computer.

Win8 does some funny things, and most people can't bear it. You can fix it by installing "Classic Shell" which will make it look like Win7.

Yes it will ask password, what I will get rid of.

What does that program do other than make it look like win 7. For me look like WIn 8 is all right.

Before it was easy to make change that PC didn't ask password, please help if you know what to do. jouni

Not sure how to do it, but is your laptop ever connected to a network?

If so then I'd strongly recommend you do log in with a password, even if the laptop is behind a firewall. Nearly all firewalls have holes - deliberately so, as they are needed for some purposes. Network firewalls rely on reasonable security on every node.

Having an insecure computer on the network risks harm to you obviously, but can also cause harm to everyone else if your computer is hacked and becomes (unknown to you) part of a botnet.

Sorry for preaching, but it's something I feel strongly about!

Provided that you know the existing password, you simply need to change it to a blank field and confirm. You will be warned that other security options are no longer available, but if you proceed, the next time that you start your computer, it will go straight to the desktop.

Note the advice from the other forum member. An unsecured account makes you more vulnerable to security breaches as well as theft.

Some users find Win8 difficult to navigate, particularly when there's no touchscreen.

I understand your advice same time as I hate all accounts and passwords and so. Before I didn't have log in, it came somehow I don't know.

I take up here one things, I met in train programmer, he had studied programing in university for 5 years and was in working world. We had very nice and interesting talk about computers and programs. When we came to virus and anti virus, I asked what kind of virus protect he had. I expected he must have 5 - 7 different same time, which he has installed very special way. He said, he has none.

If you have comments to this, of course I am open to hear. jouni

Perhaps he uses the built-in Windows security (Windows Defender)?

If a computer is connected to the Internet I would regard it as unwise not to use a firewall both on the computer and preferably also in the Internet gateway router, if there is one. Malware can get on a computer connected to the Internet without any action by the user. I've seen it happen more than once to a computer that wasn't being used and with no programs running except Windows.

In addition, unless one is sufficiently expert to understand the nature of malware and viruses and how they infect computers, I would think strongly desirable to have some active protection such as anti-virus software. Web pages may contain malware (with no way of knowing), downloaded programs may contain malware. It isn't sufficient to say "I don't go to dodgy websites"; even "respectable" sites may themselves become infected.

If the programmer you met is really saying he has no anti-virus software or firewall, then perhaps he is using and networking his computer in a way that he (as an expert) knows to be risk free. For general use, I would say that would not be smart.

Your programmer friend was probably not using Windows; more likely Unix/Mac which are less vulnerable to virus etc.

On the subject of virus protection, you would never want to have "5 - 7 different" programs, as that would be asking for trouble. It's likely that the computer would be unusable, or continually detecting imaginary "problems".

At the moment, I am using Norton Security Premium, and I'm also running Malwarebytes every now and then. I also use Windows Defender on some computers.

Main cause for concern these days is email attachments, and phoney emails that appear to be bills. Some sites will offer to "update your drivers" or "check your computer for problems". USB drives are very popular for transferring data, and unknown USB thumb drives should be treated with suspicion.

You may also get scam phone calls that tell you that "there's a problem with your computer"; they usually lose interest when told that I don't own a computer. :-D

Just had the same with my Windows 10 laptop

Google "disable windows 8 login password"

Thanks AceCo55, where I find that, jouni

I know now more about that matter. I have of course virus and firewall, I didn't stop using them. I didn't ask him, what programs he drive and use. He let me know, they don't come in if I don't accept, no more details.

My trouble with log in is, if I do it wrong three times, I can't come in myself, has happened once. And I didn't know, this log in could be safer than without, I thought this is just if someone steal my laptop, he can not go in directly, it could give me some hours to change passwords and so.

I have got good information, thank you all, jouni

Thanks, that looks good. After this information, I must think once more, if I take log in away or not, thanks, jouni
