However in case if you are not using P nor iA modes, and not take the center metering exposure? Says, underexposed every shot by -1 stop, or over expose +1stop, would the COLOR of your brand still the same?

Whenever we are not following the camera's suggestion (where the color science of a brand kicks in), we shall never have to consider the sort of issue. Not to mention the sharpness, the saturation, the tone etc SOOC jpg settings could be customized in-camera. There must be setting for you to create your own profile.

I had once dug deep into RAW conversion and post processing. Once I thought 50% of joy was from post processing, and 90% of a success (to myself) output should be by post processing. Not anymore in recent years. Thanks to improved hardware, and paying more attention for the best setting, I could reduce PP a lot. RAW would be reserved for very difficult lighting shots...

Tried it, reduce reliance on PP as much as possible, we might find SOOC indeed is very usable.

Which is why I suggest Silkypix. You can shoot raw, get the same colours as the camera jpegs, with no more work, yet have more latitude if you want to tweak the raws a bit.

This won’t make much difference to the colour, unless it stops some channels from clipping.

In- camera settings can’t match shooting in Raw and using decent processing software in post.

depends on the camera, and your own expectations about image quality.

I'm also an old retired guy. I love my G80, and while the G9 is tempting in some ways, the portability of the G80 is more important to me.

I have a G6 and G7 plus several others. Not about to ‘upgrade’ yet but I know what the difference is with the G80 because I have a GX80 with most of the same features.

The G6 actually does everything I want from a walk around camera and it is even lighter than the G7. Until the G6 fails, it is possible, though improbable, that I will be able to resist further camera upgrades. In the unlikely event of the G6 failing any time soon, the G9 beckons, at which point the G7 would take over walking around [for hours] duties due to its reasonable weight and perfect balance with either my favourite 14-140 lens or my 100-300.

I have not owned the G7, but still use my G6 along with my G9. The cameras are very different and I like both for different reasons. The G6 is easy to carry on all day hikes, etc. The G9 is weather sealed for shooting in light rain, fog, etc. Plus, works better with longer lens. I love the little lever on my G6 to change light settings.

I haven't done much picture taking or photography over the last few dull winter lock-down months but happened to take the G6 out for a walk yesterday. Still love it. It is more 'basic' and the controls far more sensitive than others but that is part of its delightful character. Light to carry and requires a light touch to use.

It was its first time out for three months and I didn't prepare and the first couple of shots had the ISO set at 1600 and were over exposed with the f2.8 lens setting. Soon got back in the groove though. Chimping has a lot going for it. LOL.

the G95 doesn`t have the G9 sensor it uses the same old one which the GX9, GX8 and PEN-F use .... it`s still way better than any of the 16Mp models though

The 20mp sensors aren't much of a step up from the 16mp sensors, in my opinion.

Both are a big step up from the 12mp sensors, though, which are much noisier.

I'm an old guy too.  I'm now 83.  But maybe you can answer something for me.

I recently bought a G95 and a couple of lenses.  In most respects, I liked it; but sent it back because of the very sensitive shutter button.  I could only feel the half press step in the shutter button if I concentrated on it, and sometimes, not even then.  A review of the G9 commented on how sensitive it's shutter button was.  So, here's my question: is the G85 button that sensitive?

I do have some damage to my right index finger from an infection; but have no problems with my FZ1000, FZ200, Canon G7X II, or any of the 9 other cameras I own.

I shoot raw +jpg, but rarely use the jpgs.  I've found that even with raw, G9 color is better (more accurate) than my prior Panasonic cameras.  I think they dialed in auto WB.  So now editing G9 raws in LR (using "as shot" white balance), I very rarely have to futz with color.  The same seems to hold true in DXO PhotoLab 4, which I've recently started using more.

Re: Don't leave out the G95

I tried a DC G9--too big, too heavy. I tried the DC G95 and liked it a lot. It's noticeably smaller and lighter than the G9. The  downside though, is the cropped 4K video. Other than that, it's a very nice camera.

Yeah, Lightroom presets are very very close too, but I refuse to go on the drip feed 😁

He he he. Yeah, I've still got the last paid version on my computer, which opens the G9 raws. I thought I better look for something else before it falls to proceed

It is fine to me, very normal as other Pannys I have.

It's been a while since I shot with my G85, but I don't recall it being overly sensitive.

I have a G9 and the half-press pressure feels fine to me - light but OK.

However it is quite easy to find you have changed the settings (accidentally or without fully realising the effect) so that it takes a photo at the half press. This caused a lot of confusion for me to start with, especially with all the comments about a too-light shutter making me think it was my heavy finger to blame rather than my settings.

In mine they are but you need RAW to show it as the crude in camera JPGs are a leveller - not only in dynamic range and noise at both ends of the ISO scale but colour depth

YMMV of course

Thanks for the reply.  I'll have to check that out a bit further.  We have a new local shop that stocks Panasonic, so I can go by there and give it a try.

That’s the only way, I think Jerry.

There have been times I’ve walked into a store intending to buy a camera only to walk out without it because I didn’t like the controls or handling.
