Canon EF 85mm f/1.4L IS USM Lens Review is up - TDP

I took over 3K photos with this lens on the weekend at a music school end of year concert and it did not disappoint. It is a stellar lens.

I was hoping for a bokey as good as 1.2, which is not the case here sadly. So will need to think which 85 mm to get. Cannot wait forever

Thanks for sharing the link. I am trying to decide between this lens and the 35 mm f 1.4 L II USM.  Ironically, one thing that I have been shooting more is my daughter's rock band's performing at small venues, or her middle school band.  Not sure if I will have too much reach with the 85mm (however depends on the venue.) In the last venue I was a bit limited with 50mm cropped (so I guess that is 80mm adjusted.) Both look like great reviews on TDP and also look at Ken Rockwell's site.

Yeah on a crop sensor it may be too long for small venues like that.

I shoot full frame and took the 35mm F/2 IS, 85mm F/1.4 IS and the 70-200mm f/2.8 IS to cover all my needs. The 1.4 smashed both the f2 and f2.8 in such a dark venue at times. I even got shots at ISO100 1/160 with the 1.4 (auto ISO on). No noise in those shots.

The Image stabilisation is superb on the 85mm.
