Dave Seeley, two things...

I thought I had seen your thread, but somehow missed it in my search. Thanks for sharing that comparison with the forum members! Something to think about...

Second thing - you are a very skilled and talented artist. I feel privileged to have you as a fellow forum member. I went into music professionally and photography as a hobby many years ago as it was evident early on that I couldn't draw or paint as well as I could play and sing. Really competent visual artists always amaze me.

Thanks for the info and input.

Re: Feedback wanted - 18-150 vs. 18-55 + 55-200 combination

Just purchased a refurbished 18-150 even though I have 18-55 and 55-200. I have been using my 11-22 a lot but find it a little short and the 55-200 too long for most of my shots. I will see how the 18 minimum works over the holidays. Ideally I would like a 16-70 based on the working distances I experience. Lens changing in a crowd simply is not safe.

Follow up.  Last night I had the chance to test the 18-150 around the night time neighborhood.  M5+18-150 was able to lock onto distant lights and structures located across lake waters as long as some contrast points were detectable, even if exposure times in P mode were many seconds.  Without an external flash, triggering was rapid and delay free.  A 8 in thick pole 20 ft away backed by a night sky did not provide sufficient contrast for auto focus at maximum ISO speed.

Re: Feedback wanted - 18-150 vs. 18-55 + 55-200 combination

Hi all. This is probably misplaced. I just purchased an M50 with the 22 2.0 which I love. I've reading the threads on M kit options and was ready to break out cash for the 18-150 but I'm hesitating. The samples look rather middle of the road bland to me. I'm looking for lenses with a character. E.g I adapted an FL 55MM 1.2 on my Sony Nex and that lense ROCKS. You can make a career with just that lense. It creates a look. I feel the 22mm 2.0 does that in it's own way. I will eventually add Mikaton 35mm .95, a fish-eye and re-adapt the FL 55mm fir the M. So back to the zoom- the images with 55-200 just look better to me- a bit crisper with that intangible I look for. But I know nothing about "original sizing" the image which seems to make a huge difference in crispness. To complicate things further, I'm starting to shoot street videos so in this regard I'm guessing the 18-150 wins. Feedback please.

There is another thing. Why do you even by an interchangeable lens mirrorless, if you dont want to change lenses? There are more compact cameras. Like the Sony RX-100x vii.

I have both for the specific reason that not being able to change lenses is a major drawback to RX-100. But if you only buy 1 lens you defeat the whole purpose of interchangeable lens system.

The other side of this argument is the lens choice for Canon is rather poor, in my opinion.
