Future challenges planned

I thought I would let you know the dates and themes of the future challenges I have lined up.

'Sevens' series - Seven Secular Sermons

.

Adrift in space and time - our place in the Universe
Submissions start day: 28th 2017 GMT

The first in the series 'Seven Secular Sermons'. Show the place of humanity in the universe. Perhaps a photograph from the eclipse, or of or the milky way, or the instruments used to observe the universe; telescopes and spacecraft. Be creative and show our place in space and time.

.

The games of entropy - the effects of time
Expected announcement: 28th November 2017 GMT

The second in the series 'Seven Secular Sermons'. Show how time changes people (and their work), places and things.

.

One of us! The human planet. People; different, yet the same.
Expected announcement: 5th 2017 GMT

The third in the series 'Seven Secular Sermons'. Show human diversity. Show how people are not all the same. Show people doing different things, perhaps co-operating, perhaps working together. Be creative and show human diversity.

.

The heartbeat of humanity
Expected announcement: 12th 2017 GMT

The fourth in the series 'Seven Secular Sermons'. Show human relationships. Show how love makes the world go round. Couples, parents, children, families. Friends, neighbours. Weddings, straight and gay. Show human compassion for strangers. Be creative and show people who need each other or helping others.

.

The knowledge of humanity
Expected announcement: 19th 2017 GMT

The fifth in the series 'Seven Secular Sermons'. Show human learning and ingenuity. Perhaps a child lost in a book. Or an amazing human construction; an aircraft becoming airborne, an impressive piece of architecture. Or an artist performing in front of an audience. Be creative and show human intelligence working or being passed on.

.

Mind and matter - the creations of humanity.
Expected announcement: 26th 2017 GMT

The sixth in the series 'Seven Secular Sermons'. Show people working with things, creating. They may be making art; they may be making something practical. You don't need to show any people in the photograph. Put a piece of your own soul into your entry; a simple record of someone else's art is unlikely to attract a high score.

.

United in the quest for truth - human progress
Expected announcement: 2nd 2018 GMT

The last in the series 'Seven Secular Sermons'. Show human achievements. Perhaps abstract achievements, like democracy, free speech, the rule of law, liberty, learning, respect and truth. Perhaps personal, individual things like kindness, friendship. Be creative and show human progress. This is the most open challenge in this series, so you can enter anything you wished you had an earlier challenge in this series.

.

.

And, in the 'Frame of Mind' series:

.

Letterbox format (2:1 ratio at least)
Submissions start day: 28th 2017 GMT

This is an open themed challenge. Shoot whatever you like, just as long as you present it in a letterbox format. Your image must be at least twice as wide as its height. Or at least twice as high as its width. So get cropping or stitching!

.

Abstract (not a pattern picture, nor a minimalistic picture)
Expected announcement: 28th 2017 GMT

A recent abstract challenge was very popular, so this one might be too. Don't let the challenge host recognise what you pointed your camera at, or your entry may be disqualified. The next two challenges in this series will be 'pattern pictures' and 'minimalistic pictures' so consider entering those instead if they are more appropriate.

.

Pattern picture
Expected announcement: 5th 2017 GMT

This is related to last week's abstract challenge. The challenge host is looking for images that contain repetition. There may be a break in the pattern, or it may be continuous. The picture will not have qualified for the abstract challenge as the subject - the things in the pattern - are identifiable.

.

Minimalist
Expected announcement: 12th 2017 GMT

This follows the abstract challenge two weeks ago. The challenge host is looking for photographs that are almost abstract but for a small detail that gives the context and makes the image complete.

.

Take to the Road
Expected announcement: 19th 2017 GMT

Show a picture that tells a story about a road trip, journeying by road. Ideas: hitchhikers, bands on tour, vehicles, their drivers or passengers, breakdowns, dramas, happy moments, sad memories, loves found and lost. The road trip must be obvious from the image.

.

Album cover for a rock band
Expected announcement: 26th 2017 GMT

Your brief is to shoot a striking album cover suitable for a 12" LP and a CD jewel case. The band's promoter does not want any text on the cover. Nor should it be a re-shoot of an existing cover. No shots of people or animals (although they may be in the shot, they must not be the main subject). The image must be square, to fit a standard album sleeve and jewel case. The band is loud, political, opinionated, feminist. A peaceful landscape is unlikely to please them.

.

Infrared (effect) photos
Expected announcement: 2nd 2018 GMT

Infrared photos either taken with a converted camera, or photos converted to mimic infrared with post-processing software.

With particular thanks to dmanthree for suggesting this last topics.

All comments and suggestions gratefully received!

Thank you for this information!  I am particularly interested to discover the photos that will be posted in the series "Seven". Their creativity will certainly make me want to vote.
