Last attempt before XE-2 goes in the parts bin

My XE2 was working fine until Turkey day when all of a sudden it hangs when saving image to card.  It won't shut down until I remove the battery.  I checked battery, lens, card these all worked fine on my other X bodies.  I tried new battery, other lenses, SD cards with the same results.

If I remove the card and press the shutter, I would get 80 percent of the image on the LCD and then the image would froze, and the camera would hang.

I had the next to latest firmware so yesterday, I got home, found a newer firmware and was able to update to latest firmware but that made no difference.  Everything about the camera appears in order accept after pressing the shutter, some thing goes haywire.  With or without a card in the slot the camera would hang.

I'm pretty sure that the camera is gone, sending it in to be fixed is not worth just getting another camera but I want to post here with the slim hope that somebody knows something.

I have the latest firmware on bodies and lenses.  All batteries, lenses, SD cards worked on my other X bodies: XPro1, XE1, XA1, XM1.  Next body would be XT3 with IBIS.

Before you send it to camera heaven, you might want to do a full reset on both the setup and shooting parameters. If that doesn't do it, as a last ditch try, pull the battery and leave it out for three or four days to completely drain the little internal battery. That will start you back at having to set the date, time, and language when you turn it on but except for any of the upgrades, everything will be back to full factory default.

Hi Bill,

Thank you for affirming my last ditch effort for I've already removed that battery and had planned on not trying again until Xmas and hope for a "present'.

You may want to investigate getting it fixed before abandoning it.  I had a misbehaving X-E2 that I got fixed in the at an official Fuji repair facility.  It had not been recognizing the shutter speed.  They needed 2 cracks at it.  The 2nd time, they "replaced everything inside" because it wasn't clear what the problem was.  Presumably that included the motherboard, which may be what has failed in your camera.

I don't remember what it cost, but it was not a huge amount, certainly less than the cost of replacing the X-E2 at the time.

I think they work with a fixed pricing system [model not problem dependent] in [most/all] countries now. Be prepared for sticker shock, but one can always ask for a quote.

Yes, the X-E2 is a nice little camera, it isn't that old and when working well it works very well.  It is irrational to not even ask for a price on a repair.

On my X-E2 the internal battery would not hold a charge resulting that whenever I needed to switch the battery the camera settings would reset to its original settings. I sent an email to Fuji and they told me that they couldn't be sure why the internal battery wasn't recharging. It may be the battery or the circuit board. Either way they told me it's $100.00 usd just to crack it open.

Not irrational. I have many other Fuji X bodies as well as other systems so the cost of getting this one fixed doesn't enhance my picture taking experience much.  I'd rather spend the money on something else.  If this was my only camera or my only Fuji X body, then perhaps.  In the US, I would estimate the price to be between 300-500 to fix it.  A refurb XE2 is 350.  Not much point in getting it fixed.  I'll keep the money and spend it on the XT3 when it is becomes available.

This company!

I've had Precision fix my dslr's twice and at half the cost with turn around time light years ahead of Nikon. Very reasonably priced too. Call and they will give you what's up.

I thought you were talking about Precision Camera in Enfield, CT; http://www.precisioncamera.com

They are actually Olympus's and Sony's US repair facility plus, they are one of Nikon's and Ricoh/Pentax's authorized repair facilities. Cameras, lenses, flashes, whatever, digital or film, if it's less than 10 years old, they will fix it. But when I've inquired about repairs, one thing they are not is inexpensive.

for sure it is not the SD card you might with a magnifier inspect that interface connection points.  Maybe one is weak, and if the image cannot complete the write it may hang.
