Problem Pana body + Olympus ext. flash in Iso auto mode
Nov 21, 2017
Hi all,
Coming from Canon (EOS 5D was my last body) and Sony A900, I bought in 2012 my first MFT : EM5 + 12mm + flash FL-600R.
Very happy!
Few months after I bought the only pro zoom lens available : Pana 12-35 f2.8.
Very happy!
In 2014 I bought my first "serious" hybrid body for stills and video : the famous GH4.
Very Happy!
As I take much more photos than videos, I also bought, between new lenses, a second FL-600R for RC mode.
Again, very happy using both flashes with the GH4.
This week-end, I started to go a little deeper in the flash options with both my old EM5 and my also old GH4.
I discovered an option I did not know inside the EM5 "F Flash Custom" menu : "Slow Limit" which seems to work very well in Aperture Priority with Iso auto!
I tried to find the same option inside my GH4 body but with no success.
Now the problem : As it is possible to use the GH4 built in flash in auto Iso mode, I naively thought it could also be possible to use the FL-600R in auto Iso mode with the GH4. In that case, in Manual, I could choose my speed and my aperture and the body would choose itself the best iso. But unfortunately, Auto Iso does not work.
So my early conclusion : despite many say Olympus FL600-R and Lumix DMW-FL360L are the exact same flashes (which is apparently the case), they do not offer the exact same features if they are installed on an Olympus or a Lumix body.
Despite many here use their GH4 almost exclusively for video, could someone confirm my "bad news" about the lack of auto Iso mode between GH4 (or GH bodies) and FL-600R (or Olympus top flashes) ?
Thank you in advance
PD. I also made a test in RC mode with the GH4 with the same result : all my photos stay at Iso 200 whatever the light inside the room (contrary to the EM5 + FL-600R in Iso auto mode)
