What is the problem with my NX300 output?

Hi,

Iv'e both the NX3300 and the NX300, still haven't decided which of them to keep, I really love the NX300's form factor, feel in hand and touch screen, but every time I actually take a photo, the output always looks rather bad compared to the NX3000 in both JPG and also RAW.

My main complaint is the ugly way it renders shadows, you can clearly see blotches of color in the blacks, instead a smooth gradient.

Second issue is that there are a lot of white, gray spots all over the photo and it does not seem like noise because the ISO is rather low, and the exposure is short. Is that a case of a dirty sensor?

Sometimes i can also notices multiple bright red spots .

Is my camera faulty or this is actually how the output of the NX300?

Is there a way to fix the ugly blotches in an easy way in post processing?

Thank you for your time

Color blotches in shadows are normal at high ISO (3200+), but gray ones are probably dirty sensor related (take a f/22 exposure of clear sky and they should be visible - also look at the sensor). Permanent red pixels are sensor defect. Raw development software should be able to eliminate color noise. Did you try any?

Nx3000 and NX3300 both have pretty strong noise reduction that cannot be turned off even in RAW but people seem to like it.

Thanks for the reply, totally agree about high issue, but the problem that it happens also at the very low iso range.

ISO200 - look how ugly the grays are, you can clearly see the chunks of different shades of the gray.

ISO400 - look at the bokeh and again you'll clearly see color chunks of the different shades. If you'll zoom in you'll also see gray spots all over.

Hard to say without a photo.

depending on your description I would not think on a dirty sensor.

Cleaning is easy, be careful and clean the sensor front glass plate (the real sensor is capsulated) with q-tips and white sidolin (german brand window cleaner without alcohol).

Take care not to touch the shutter which is direct in front of the sensor anyway.

I did this many times without problem.

There should also be also a menue action for sensor cleaning, try both.

If this doesnt work, open the camera and check wether the cmos sensor flex cable is slightly out of the mainboard connector.  Open it and deconnect/ connect it once again

An orientation to open the cam can be found on ifixit.com.

My tip: quiet with a lot of time, the right working tools and without any force to anything you cannot destroy anything which is not defect now

In the case the things above does not work you should think about defect on sensor or motherboard.

Swapping that with a dead cam from ebay or sell your cam to ebay and buy a new one.

Just My opinion

First image is really weird, I don't have NX300 but I doubt it should produce such photos at ISO 200,these look like 3200 from my NX1000.

Re: What is the problem with my NX300 output?

Here is another comparison, NX3300 on the right, NX300 on the left.

30mm f/2, 1/10 & ISO100 for both, taken from the same position, the NX3300 seems to resolve a lot more details, and give a better exposed photo on the exact same settings and lens as the NX300 (EXIF shows NX300 to have EV-1.3 while the NX3300 EV0)

Is something wrong with my NX300, or is it just the it is for this model?
