Great camera

The Olympus OM-D E-M10 has one real dislike: its name is too long and complicated.

It's actually a great allround camera. Out of the camera jpegs are fantastic! With the 14-42 EZ kit lens the camera is so small it fits in every jacket; with the 9 mm lens hood lens the camera is like a real compact. I also own a Canon 5DSR but because of the size I very often take the Olympus with me.

Considering the size sensor and considering a modest 16 MP resolution it is incredible to see how good images look, even with the 9 mm Olympus lens hood fish eye lens results are remarkable. If you are used to a DSLR but you don't want these big cameras around your neck or breast, this is a real alternative, without losing too much quality.

The down side: noise becomes a problem in the higher ISO-ranges. The menu is somewhat complicated, it's a pity that the screen isn't fully movable. The electronic viewfinder is OK, but can and should be better and faster.

Re: Great camera

After having the PL-2 and PL-5, the OM 10 was such an upgrade that it was the first camera that I really loved.  And, now that I've added the OM 10 ii, I can say that it's a camera that's even better.  I've kept the OM 10 and use both when hiking and looking for nature shots.

I think it's very manageable until 1600, as long as you don't underexpose too much.

Shooting RAW and using something like DxO Prime NR does wonders too. I have always been surprised how clean high ISO shots with Oly cameras are, of course there is a limit, and not so much the noise but the loss of detail that becomes a problem.

The menu is somewhat complicated,

True, it requires a bit more time to get familiar with. Complicated, yes, different than Canon or Sony etc, yes, but downside? I guess you get a lot of options.

Seems like Olympus listened to complaints and dumbed down Mark III. Me... I prefer something complex, but more capable!

it's a pity that the screen isn't fully movable.

No. Maybe a disadvantage for selfie shooters.

The electronic viewfinder is OK, but can and should be better and faster.

Mark II has a "better" EVF. Faster, not sure, speed of the EVF hasn't been a problem for me. I think there is a setting to increase the frame rate - have you invoked that?

Re: Great camera

I really liked that camera until it died with stuck shutter. I replaced it with a used E-M1 Mk I and could be happier. I have an E-P5 when I need something smaller.

Re: Great camera

@ Lichtspiel: you are totally right! Right now I am considering buying a Mk II or MK III.

Re: Great camera

I agree. The E-M10 was my first Olympus, bought on a whim to pair with my GX7. Loved it from the git-go. Have had the E-M10 II, E-M5 II, Pen F, E-M1.1 and 1.2 since, but the little  E-M10 remains my first love.
