Re: 90mm Test Shots

Yes that's it. It's also visible in areas of the upper left quadrant.

It's quite clear on my MacBook Retina display even without magnification or manipulation.

Is that what you are seeing. I can't see it myself but the pattern becomes apparent after some image filtering and it shows up in the FFT.

I would be surprised if the pattern was created by the lens.

Rawtherapee processing.

Part of the picture without the shirt and its FFT (ImageJ). The shirt itself has a pattern so I had to remove the shirt from the picture.

I think it is because of the background itself and not the lens. I have this lens and never experienced this. see sample below.

I don't see the pattern on the picture posted by the OP, but ...

There is a pattern in the crop provided by rwbarron as I showed in my last post.

@rwbarron. How did you create that crop from the OP picture? It seems to me it was resized.

I tried again to amplify any pattern using RT but this time directly from the OP provided picture (not rwbarron's post) and there is no pattern I can see. Maybe others can see a pattern though. The FFT still shows a grid but that is likely a leftover from the demosaicking algo.

(Edit) It looks like the person in the back wears something around the neck and that may be creating the pattern rwbarron sees (as the OP commented).

Yes and my thinking is it's the way this site handles the files. There have been discussions about this in the Canon forums several years ago where people noticed artifacts in the photos they uploaded to this site that were not in their original.

Re: 90mm Test Shots

I love this lens.  The output is just really pleasant and it is just so sharp even wide open.

I just wish I used it more.  I find that for what I shoot, the 56mm gets a lot more usage because the 90mm is just too long, even though I prefer the look of the 90mm.
