I am lucky to live near a preserved railway, running wonderful old steam engines. This weekend there was a visit from a famous locomotive which I saw for real when I was a boy in the 1950s. The weather wasn't great, the light was very poor, and it was hard to separate the engine from all the other photo and steam enthusiasts. Eventually I got something different, this backlit image. There was very little colour in the image, so I converted it to b/w and I'm quite pleased with the result. Makes a difference from the run-of-the-mill locomotive photos which I usually take - not that I don't enjoy them too!

Really nice shot, a reminder of the days when we had proper trains.

Very well done.  I live in a small village that used to be quite the train hub, but that's all gone now.  We still have the tracks, a couple of buildings that used to be stations, and signal balls that were the last operational, manually operated signal balls in the US.

Seconded. Even though they're not steam, I enjoy taking trains when traveling.

Did I miss where this was taken?
