M mode on GX800 not working, need some help

Hello guys

I just purchased a GX800 (GX850/GF9 in some areas).

It's a second body, not for my main work, but anyway, actually a nice little cam. BUT:

I just found something strange:

When I try to shoot video in M mode (manual), I can choose f-stop and shutterspeed of course... but not EV or ISO. Which makes no sense.

Actually ISO can be choosed... but the camera simply ignores it when filming. Meaning:
no matter if I film in manual with ISO Auto or for example ISO 200 or 3200... it simly makes no difference in the video... the camera always stays basically in Auto ISO and simply ignores my setting.
This is not the end of the world, I heard about that problem before. BUT the actual problem is: EV does not work either!
I simply can't choose EV... it's there, but I can't change it. I can only change f-stop, shutter and ISO (but ISO is ignored)... so, without beeing able to change EV (exposure compensation), the manual mode is simply not manual at all :/

Can anyone help me out?
It makes no sense... therefore I hope I simply make a mistake and there is a way to acutally make EV selectable OR make manual ISO actually work.
(like I said, strictly talking about video here)

Looking forward to your help. Thanks a lot,
Oliver

I warned you. The M mode is for still images only. Video is fully automatic in any mode, you cannot choose the exposure parameters at all. Your aperture, shutter speed and ISO settings are ignored.

You can bypass this limitation somewhat by shooting in 4K Photo (S/S). You will find a regular 4K 30p video file on you SD card.

What the others said.

But just to add that exposure compensation does work, if that helps you.

Actually, when thinking about it, exposure compensation does not work in M mode. So it is necessary to switch to P,S or A.

Yes you warned me :/
The problem is: I misunderstood you. Since I saw some video reviews about the camera that told that manual was possible (they are wrong), but only ISO is not working, I assumed you were talking about that.
It's a misunderstanding from my side... first of all because english is not my normal language and second because I had an already wrong idea of the cameras manual control in my mind (based on these wrong video reviews) and therefore thought you were talking about ISO... and missed that you were trying to say that there is NO control at all.

It seems like I misunderstood you as well... the thing is, you wrote:

"Yep. You can't set ISO for videos, but you can set exposure compensation."

But based on that I was of course assuming that shutter speed and f-stop DO work in manual mode. Only ISO won't.
You did not tell me that ALL settings completely are ignored in video mode...

Yes, I understand. You can either return the camera (and try the GX80, as I suggested) or try these workarounds:

- switch to P,S or A. Push the UP button (exposure compensation), turn the wheel to make the image brighter or darker. Then shoot video. You can't control the exposure parameters, but you can control the overall exposure (if this works on the GX800).

- switch to M. Turn on 4K Photo (Fn1 by default on the GX800), choose the S/S option(Start/Stop). Now set you exposure parameters (aperture, shutter speed, ISO). Start shooting by pressing the shutter button (not the red video record button), stop it by pressing it again. The camera will show you a 4K burst, but you will find a normal 4K/30p mp4 video file (including sound) on your SD card when viewing it on a pc.

Hope this helps.
