Canon 135mm f2 replacement question...

I've recently purchased the 135mm f2 lens but having issues getting sharp focus, tried a tripod, high shutter and in camera micro adjustments but still the issue is there. So wondering if anyone has ever returned a lens with issues of sharpness and the replacement lens has resolved the problem.

I'm shooting with a Canon 6d firmware version 1.1.6

Thanks in advance to any help given.

Many have. If the lens is new, under warranty and you think it has a problem either return for a new one or send to canon for warranty repair. That lens should be razor sharp.

Thanks John I reckon you're right as just received this morning the canon 85mm f1.8 and after testing it on the cat it's sharp, so leads me to think there is an issue with that lens...

Have you tried live view manual focusing? Also, make sure the focus limiter is set to the proper distance. Last time I used my 135L I forgot I had set the focus limiter. Funny thing was that I was at almost exactly the limited distance, so my pictures were all focused on the ears, because the eyes were in front of the MFD.

But if the 85 non L is sharper than your 135L, something is wrong.

This is what I getting this was shot at @1600 f2 ISO 100, looks OK but zoom in and it's very poor.

Also I'm going to test this lens on another camera and see wha happens

Bretton Woods is one of the ski areas I wish I'd tried when I lived in New Hampshire.

From what distance was that shot?

I don't recall the distance (Spring 2012), but here is uncropped image for reference.

Return it and get yourself a Sigma Art 135 F/1.8.  For the same price you get a much better instrument.

Just wait a few months and save up. The Sigma is light years above.

While some may advise dumping your Canon 135 for the exceptional but significantly more expensive Sigma, I think you're going to find the Canon's IQ to be impressive. The Canon is a more compact, lighter lens with excellent build and pictorial results live up to its well deserved reputation.

Post up some of YOUR image samples of this Sigma lens, although I must admit it could be more down the skills of the tog with reasonable equipment rather than good equipment used by an average tog that produce's work worthy of being credited as outstanding... For now the Canon is serving it's purpose both for quality and budget!

Like go watch the reviews and comparisons. No contest. Sigma wins, as it does 90% of the time.
