Then really, no, no and no.  The rez is very limited for landscape.  Ditto for weddings if one needs any cropping or low light shooting.  The AF is average at best.  The same holds true for concert shooting.

It may be fun to play woth a bit..but you'd be better of with any of the new Fuji gear.

I've had the S5 Pro for around two years. IMO, the reason to own one is for its rich colors, highlight dynamic range plus it is a pro  build Nikon body with access to all Nikkors, Ai and forward. The skin tones are beautiful. Professional wedding photographers used the S5 for many years for good reasons.

Yes, it is a low resolution camera by current standards, the super CCD low light capabilities are limited to ISO 1600 in use and it is no machine gun. However, the color output and highlight dynamic range that made this camera are present today.

If you like toys that are not expensive & have lenses, why not.

I used the camera for many years but it is oudated now but did produce some really nice colours.

Ok though if budget is tight or you already have some Nikon lenses.

I still have mine but I haven't used it for a long time.

Oh, and I wouldn't use it for concerts.

The S5 pro is a slow camera in term of operation, burst shooting and AF by today's standard.

So if by performance you mean speed then it is not a good candidate.

I'd look for a used X-T1 or X-T2 if you are shooting concert and wedding professionally.

First off, there is no such thing as "highlight dynamic range."  Second, the dynamic range has been matched and surpassed by the current Sony sensors in Sony, Nikon, Pentax cameras.  Even Fuji's latest range with DR400 setting does better with less noise and tonality breakdown.

Agree that modern sensors substantially outperform the S5's SuperCCD in the areas of shadow recovery, resolution & high ISO. In the areas color reproduction, highlight retention and their their film like soft clipping, not so much.

Perhaps the term " highlight dynamic range" may be in error but have certainly come across it in several articles/reviews as per the below.

"Highlight Dynamic Range" Nikon D600 vs Fuji S5 Pro:

Nikon D800E vs Canon 5D vs Fuji S5 Pro Dynamic Range (highlight recovery):

I am quite familiar with the software manipulated DR settings of the Fuji XE-1 and XE-2 which also owned. Personal preference with XE cameras is exposing for highlights @ DR100 & addressing shadow recovery in LR.

As modern sensors have a larger dynamic range, they can better maintain the entire tonal fange than the S5 can.  Highlight clipping comes from not metering correctly.  If the sensor can handle the whole range, then clipping is user error.

Perhaps the term " highlight dynamic range" may be in error but have certainly come across it in several articles/reviews as per the below.

Dynamic range is the tonal range ofnthe entire scene from absolute balck to absolute white.  What people call highlight dynamic range is really to do with latitude above mid grey.

In my opinion, itbis nit so much the dynamic range but the fact the S5 has a less linear tonal response than modern sensors due to the second set of sensors dedicated to highlights.

So it captures light differently in the highlights.

Whether it looks better or not is a personal preference.

Yeah as they said it comes down to purpose.

The S5 in it's day was considered "special"  I have it and an XE-1.  There is a definite look to the an S5 pic.  I do often use the XE-1 to set K exposure when I have both.

I think the S5 is a very good camera and will print well, with a good lens it makes very good pictures.  The other thing that is very true about it even with respect to K exposure is that the WB is very well rendered.

I don't see my self parting with my S5, the skin tones as said are a big sell point.  For people it is difficult to beat,  without a lot of PP fuss, which I have never done.  And it is tone agnostic, black folks look just as vibrant.

Re: Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro

I bought this camera in 2017 used and I agree with what everybody's saying - it's a wonderful camera with beautiful colors and unique silky smooth and refined looking output. Skintones are unmatched to this day. However it's quite old and there are some shortcomings - for landscape it lacks details but the colors are wonderful; for concerts it lacks high iso capability; for weddings it could still be usable but it is no longer supported by Fuji so if it brakes...

And reverse: if you do not own Nikkors, leave it and get one of the latest Fuji bodies. With the S5pro, you'll invest in the Nikon ecosystem.

Absolutely, yes, get it especially if you can still find a minty one in 2017 like I did last year. It's now one of my all time favorite bodies. Why? It delivers a filmic look from its rich CCD colors and soft highlight roll off (much like color negative film).

My recommendation is to pair it with sharp Nikkor glass to offset the strong AA filter a bit. Here I used the 17-55F2.8G which has beautiful 3D Pop in addition to contrasty colors.
