It didn't work. Too obvious. I have seen much better attempts than this. For it to work, you have to be more subtle. And it has to make some sense.

All good attempts must have an element of truth in order to be effective.

I have seen it done very well on this board at least once a week the past three years.

This attempt was not one of those times.

THis guy (fullstop) is obviously a Troll...Ignore him i suggest

Ed, of course he is.  That was the whole point of my post.  I was just afraid to use the word. Calling someone a Troll can get you banned.  Trust me, I know.

I'm good at troll-spotting, but I have to be careful in calling them out.  We have two very good moderators.  They are fair but have to keep the peace.

Thanks Greg, and in the spirit of "keeping the peace"...

This is a good opportunity to suggest to all that this discussion move on to something productive.  It's leaning in the direction of trolling and wandering off topic, so let's bring the conversation back to the topic at hand, keep comments impersonal, and I won't have to bring out the big, bad Mod hammer and lock another thread... OK?

Thanks in advance.

Hey I never called anyone a troll or any names as you guys have just pointed out the big gap in results between the f2 trio and the older 23 35 and 56 mm lenses. These images confirmed my suspicions

Greg you erred with your troll caper as Fuji is my mainstay camera system .

I am pretty disappointed in the direction Fuji has gone with these lenses but money is money and these f2 lenses are a good cash cow. I am sure that Fuji cannot afford to stay with the expensive f1.4 lenses in this category of cameras exclusively so now we have the GFX 50S that covers the high end cameras and lenses.

My guess it is the end of the line in  development of the older lenses and f2's and the new breed of 2.8 zooms will be the mainstay

OK.  That sounds better.  Your other posts had all the trappings of what I thought you were really doing.  So sure, you can have a negative opinion about a Fuji lens and not be called a Troll.  No problem.  But I disagree with you totally.  The F2 trio is outstanding and exactly what many of us wanted.  The small size, WR, fast focusing and ruggedness is great.  Fuji did not compromise.  It was a deliberate decision.  Sure, it's F2, not 1.4.... True.  But they decided not to update the 1.4 versions and instead do a smaller lens at F2.  But to say the F2s all lack character is inviting friction.  You can't prove it, and we can't disprove it. Hey, but if you see it, so be it.... Reminds me of the Leica guys and their microcontrast stuff...

I wish they would update all the older lenses with better build, motor, WR, etc....  I would buy a new model 23 1.4....

But to say the F2s all lack character is inviting friction. .....................Ok they have character but it is clinical and not inviting . I am happy to agree with the Leica guys who I thought were kidding themselves but they do have something to crow about how their lenses render the image

Cool that you are reflected in the mans eye. The "painterly effect" is this how the camera renders the photo or is it post production?

Not exactly..

That's how it looks like when I sometimes add a little bit of clarity on Lightroom

Now that is a lot more interesting it starts to tell a story as opposed to the uncropped version

You probably gave me a new idea to test out!

The 3 lenses are just boring unlike the older 23 and 35 and 56

"Boring" might be an overstatement, but I will agree with the following: if you have a dull composition with dull light and a meaningless subject matter, the resulting picture will be boring AND it will be even more boring if shot through the "fujicron" trio.

I agree with you that the older trio brings a little magic dust to the table. Especially - but not exclusively - when used wide open.

I keep noticing that difference as well, much to my dismay. I am really glad I kept the oldies, and only use the newbies on rainy days or when I want the lightest possible setup.

That said, while the OP's pictures do not attempt to tell a "story" (boring or exciting) as a collection, some of them are very nice, and portray people, and a cat, of Bahrain in a compelling way to my eyes.

The "street life" subject line works for me here, even if these are dissociated portraits linked together only by the fact they were shot at a given place....with a given lens. They might have had marginally more charm with the 56mm, but who cares?

The fact is that the OP's "street life" portraits now exist, and by having had access to them on this forum, they made my world today a bit more human and likeable.

Thanks for that, myahya09!

From my perspective "street life" pictures don't need to have a strong association or story-line...that's documentary photography is it not? What do others think?
