Re: ISO 6400

Good to hear, I did see a video where they pushed the shadows wide open on a low light shot in post and the picture was still very usable , I was actually looking at some used L series glass last night to add to the old Christmas list.

Re: Canon 80D refurb on sale now

It's a great piece of equipment. I'm still getting use to it. I have done video recording of my daughters basketball games with and it eats up space. This weekend I changed it to lite and I was able to record 3 games on 1 32GB card. It suits me just fine. One day hopefully to get a 24-70, this would be perfect for sideline shots.

Dang, I am so tempted! This feels like it would be a pretty sweet upgrade over my t5i. Do y'all think that prices will be any lower over Black Friday. Not sure I can wait though, that would mean missing the autumn leaf season.

Depends on what you are planning to do with it. I need more fps and better video focus for my kids. My daughter does H.S. basketball and the T5i shutter lag was a killer for me. I did like SOOC jpegs on T5i better, but that's subjective to ones taste.

Lol DMaxx you are where I was , I was thinking of holding out until November for the T7i in case of price drop, then the 77d dropped to just $50 more then T7i, then Stan shared the link for 80D! The weather sealing of the 80D pushed me over the edge and the fear of stock running out since refurb I pulled the trigger. I was happy to see the refurb comes with 1 year warranty as well.

The problem is that I would really be forced to buy the 85mm 1.8 as well in order to fully take advantage of the sweet autofocus system. And why not the 24mm STM just for kicks. Yeah it sure is nice to "save money", lol.

Re: Canon 80D refurb on sale now

I am looking at the 85 mm as well and there are some decent prices on it for new ones on Ebay. I also am checking out the 24-105 L lens, but I have my heart set on a Tamron 150-600 for my birding hobby so have to make a choice there. I will probably go with 24-105 and lighting, pickup some side work doing portraits etc after learning period of course maybe earn enough for the 150-600

There is no EF-S weather-sealed lens tho.  I wouldn't mind using a weather-sealed FF prime, but the standard zoom option is regrettably missing.  About time Canon update it's 17-55 and 15-85 lens and make these babies weather-sealed.

Yes, it would be nice to have everything sealed up. Although my Pentax K-5 has that feature and I haven't had to take advantage of it yet.

Mine was delivered today, as far as the body goes looks brand new, popped the cover off and checked mirror with lighted loop looks brand new as well , unfortunately I did not have extra battery so impatiently waiting for battery to charge to test working functions and inspect sensor.

I'm sure everything will be perfect.  It'll be a long two plus hours wait while the battery charges.  The good thing is that it has a 900+ shot rating, so you won't have to charge it very often.

Re: Canon 80D refurb on sale now

Lol true Stan, and already headed to Amazon for spares. Here is a shot as shot I took off my back deck purposely underexposed, Then with just opening the shadow slider all the way up. all other settings the default light room settings. One reason I was looking to upgrade was on the occasion I needed to lift shadows with my 1300D (Of course not wide open) I would loose so much detail and get a ton of noise when I would get the shadows where I thought they needed to be, I did work around it somewhat on the 1300d by adjusting ev. Of course neither shot is meant to be good just test.

Re: Canon 80D refurb on sale now

The 80D is a really exceptional APS-C camera. It'll take while to figure it all out, but it is basically a very user friendly camera. Certainly a big step up from what you've been using, Chris. Congratulations on the purchase!

Re: Canon 80D refurb on sale now

Thank you for the heads up!!! Now to decide between the 24-105 L lens or the Tammy 150-600. I have about $625 in pay pal gift cards saved up that are now burning holes in my pocket lol.

Of course if I go for the Tammy, I need to do more saving. Oh and my wife did get new living room furniture out of the deal. I guess its undies and socks for Christmas this year!

Still waiting to get mine. I arranged for the 2 hour delivery window with UPS on Tuesday (btw 4:30 and 6:30), and the UPS guy was apparently there early. I got home at 4:30 and there was already a "we missed ya" note on my door. I had to work late today.:-( I'm gonna arrange for the same delivery window tomorrow and get home extra early!

As for new lens, I would get the 24-70 f4.  The 24-105 has worse IQ than the $50 18-55 kit lens when used on a crop body.  Altho, I plan to use just EF-S lenses on this camera. If I go with FF lens, I'd want it paired with a FF body, something like the 6Dii or an used 6D.

Given the 80D is sealed, I'd expect Canon to offer a sealed kit lens with it as an option, like the Panasonic G85 and its 12-60 kit lens.

There's been a few times when I wish I had the sealing on my Rebel.  I still went out shooting in the rain and everything was fine, but good to have the peace of mind.

Re: Canon 80D refurb on sale now

as you might have noticed, there are several cams 'out of stock' and of course if truly 'refurbished' then the supply depends on the returns or whatever the source of 'refurbished' cams/lens come from.

iow, there may NOT be any by black friday OR there are oodles of them, ask canon !!

i personally have been disappointed in the last 2-3 BF's seemed many 'specially purchased' items and not 'normal' great prices on many things (i wanted) or they are just clearance items.

so good luck waiting !!!!

Re: Canon 80D refurb on sale now

i would not call it 'sealed' but 'weather resistant' - it is just a closed foam gasket around things, nothing short of a underwater enclosure will guarantee.

nothing wrong w/ plastic bag w/ end of lens sticking out (hold it down when not shooting), everything else in bag - clear bags work better, hard to use ovf/buttons if black bag !!!

Re: Canon 80D refurb on sale now

So I received the Camera yesterday, after much headache and many calls with UPS and Canon.  Seems to work fine and looks brand new.  Shutter count is somewhere around 1100 out of the box.  So far pleased with performance but wish it has Bluetooth as NFC and WiFi was a bit finicky to use.  Will do more test later.
