Canon 80D refurb on sale now

Canon has a super deal on their refurbished 80D's right now. The 80D, with full one year warranty, and the 18-55 STM lens is available as a kit for only $779.95. That's the cheapest price I have ever seen for this package. I have been considering upgrading my T6s body to an 80D for a while, and I just jumped on this deal.

Also a very good price with the EF-S 18-135 nano-USM, $1079.  That's $20 less than B&H are asking for new 80D body only: https://shop.usa.canon.com/shop/en/catalog/eos-80d-ef-s-18-135mm-f-3-5-5-6-is-usm-kit-refurbished

The USM lens worth $300 on top of the 18-55?  I already have the 18-55, but that can stay on my current body.  80D seems heavy with the 18-135 and I heard it's IQ is lower than the shorter kit zoom?

Close. 18-55 STM is ~$250 retail, the 18-135 USM is ~$600.

(a) I think you heard wrong, or maybe compared to the earlier 18-135 models rather than the latest USM version

or (b) doesn't matter since as good as the 18-55 STM is, it's IQ is really awful at 56-135mm

IQ appears to be the same except at 55mm where the 18-55 is really bad, and I've noticed that too.  I put on the 50mm f1.8 if I expect to use that FL a lot.

Anyway looks like the 18-135 can be had for around $200 used or $300 new on eBay.  Good deal to buy directly from Canon or buy the 18-55, sell it and then buy the 18-135.  Good to have options.

I opted for the $779.95 deal with the 18-55 lens since I already have the 18-135 lens, which I like and have had very good luck with.  I intend to list the 18-55 on eBay as soon as I get it.  If I can get $100, that brings the 80d body down to $679.95, which is a really great deal.

Looking at the eBay listings, $100 may be too optimistic.  $50-75 seems more like it.  Surprised these lenses bring so little.

Definitely too optimistic at $100.  Even the 18-135mm can be found for like $200-250 used.  Huge quantity of these are being dumped on the market.

There are a number of 18-135 versions.  I doubt you can find the USM version for $200-$300.

I bought the 18-55mm kit and will sell it and use the money toward a pre-owned copy of either the USM or STM version of the longer zoom lens. Finally upgraded my camera body after 8 years. I've actually been eyeing the refurb store for a few days now.

Abe's is selling the USM new for $310. There are a number of copies on eBay going for around that amount. Amazon has some used ones for like $260. The STM version can be had used for about $200 or so. I actually prefer the STM version as it's a little lighter.

It's cheaper to buy the refurb 80D with the kit zoom than just refurb 80D.

Ugh! Thanks Stan, I had decided to wait until November to see what kind of Christmas savings there would be on the T7i or 77D before upgrading but now this deal pops up! Hard to pass up at that price.

Now to get past spending that kind of money on myself and not the family. Well I guess I could take the entire family on a getaway weekend and try out my new 80d.

Seriously though thanks for the heads up.

Buy it, then take some pictures of the family, Chris.  It's a super deal, and the 80D is still a fantastic camera body.  I was going to wait for the next upgrade, when it will likely get the Digic 7 upgrade and Bluetooth.  Then, I realized, that's still at least 6 months to a year away and will probably cost well over $1,000 for the body alone.  Refurbs won't show up for another year or so .... so why not get this package for the price of a 77d body?  I'll have mine Monday ... shipping just confirmed.

I agree to let the wife buy a new laptop so she would let me buy this.

Nope, the lowest 18-135 USM is $320 white box on ebay, the sold listings are just a tick under $300, with only a few at or under $265

You may be able to snipe one lower, but I doubt it.

Not even that.. once it comes out, it'll take 1-2 years for prices to normalize and bundles/rebates/promotions to start.. you're talking about something 3+ years away

kit lenses in general hold no value unless it's like the 24-105L and even that can be had for super cheap compared to msrp.

^^^ He won't snipe one lower likely, the best strategy is to find somebody with a best offer and negotiate. Eventually you'll get something.

Another strategy is just to find a bulk package of gear, like body/ 3-4 lenses, take all, or take what you want then sell off what you don't need. These often go significantly lower than if bought individually.

I looked at the time interval between each release, and found it's been increasing.  If I remembered  correctly, the previous 3 upgrades in the xxD series were announced approximately 36, 36 and 24 months apart.  In the "distant" past, upgrades were as frequent as every 12 or 18 months.

Given innovation has generally run dry for Canon DLSRs, I find it hard to believe they will release any upgrade in the next 6 months or a year.  It may make more sense to concentrate on release more cameras in the EF-M line.
