Wonderful light, and a great capture. I do think you should crop off the top half though.

Nice photo with good light on the castle.

I personally prefer the view from further to the west of Princes Street, or, if you have a long lens (100mm+) you can get a good shot from Calton Hill.

If you're local, head to the Vennel down by Grassmarket or the roof of the National Museum (or the terrace at the restaurant) for other good views of the castle. If you fancy a decent dinner, Chaophraya does good food and has a great view over the castle too.

But I agree, both urban and rural, Scotland is beautiful, and I really ought to get some weather proof gear!

One of the glories of Scotland at this time of year is the beautiful skycap you can find, so I'd say keep it! After all, there may be no more days without rain until winter ....
