As someone that really likes these native mount chinese MF primes, I would actually say go with the Canon 22.

-Optical quality. Already great with the Canon 22. Although the Rokinon may be better, it is not that much more so than the Canon. Not necessarily the case with longer focal length adapted EF lenses, ex. my Canon EF 50 1.4 is MUCH softer wide open than my Rokinon EF-M 50 1.2

-Size. Canon 22 is a pancake and much smaller than the Rokinon. The opposite is true for the adapted EF canon 35 and 50's vs the Mitakon 35 0.95 / Rokinon 35 1.2 and Rokinon 50 1.2.

-DOF. For the wider 21-22mm focal length the difference in perceived shallow depth of field / bokeh is less dramatic than the shallow DOF produced by the longer focal length fast primes like 35 or 50.

I would say keep the 22/2 (should be a mandatory lens for an EF-M kit), and put the rest of the money towards a mitakon 35mm f/0.95 or rokinon 50 f/1.2 (both of which I have).

Rokinon's lenses look L lenses for EF-M because of their image quality and red ring. They are indeed blessings for M users who are thirsting for fast native primes. Moreover, M5 pleases its users with its abilities regarding MF assist.

However, EF-M lenses such as 22/2 and 11-22 IS are more compelling. They are blessings to M users. Without them, I would not have entered EOS M system.

Canon 11-22 vs Samyang 12/2

Canon 22/2 vs Samyang 21/1.4

and

Canon 50/1.8 vs Samyang 50/1.2

IMHO, 22, 11-22, 50/1.8 are must-have lenses for M system. They are small and wonderful. And then Samyang/Rokinon 12/2, 21/1.4, and 50/1.2 can be added to these default lenses for fast aperture, but not for substitution.

One more thing. as for standard focal length, we have Samyang 35/1.2, Mitakon 35/0.95 mk2, Canon EFM 28/2.8 Macro, EF 35/2 IS, and others. I have not decided yet. How about you?

haven't tried the samyang 21mm but it would be extremely difficult to get better than the 22mm f/2 pancake .... and it has good AF

Because it lack AF?
I was thinking about Samyang 21mm because of it's f/1.4 aperture, i think it will be more subject separation (in non close up shots as well ) compared to f/2.

I'd agree, not a substitute.

Despite not being a substitute, my Rokinon is SOOOO good on my M5, and my bag space limited, I swapped it (EF 50mm f/1.8 STM + Adapter for the Rokinon 50mm f/1.2).

Whenever I shoot it, it's killer.
