E-M1 Mark II + ED 75-300mm II combination (pics inside)

Hi all,

Having seen the lens for some time, I would like to share some images on the combination of the two. The lens seems to be given its price and specifications quite capable with good image quality (at least my copy is).

I found also that image stabilization works much better in position IS-auto than at IS-1.

Overall i am quite happy with the combo.

All images processed to taste with ACR

I've seen dubious resolution from this lens in the past and these are anything but, so well done!

Cheers,

Rick

Very nice work, and my 75-300II works as yours. This lens is unforgiving of improper use. Kept mine when I got the PL100-400 as a long travel lens.

I agree. The price for the combo is very good value. A few of my photos with the 75-300 II taken in Kenya are attached for your viewing and comments

I do wish they would release a weather resistant version. I don't want to give up Pro Capture and other special features of the EM1.2 by getting a non Olympus lens.

Threads like this just make me wish harder.

Hi Jeff,

I totally agree with you. The lens is capable for very good results but requires very careful handling. Even minimal movements cause blurry images especially at the longer edge.

John

It's a 600mm EQ fov light lens and even with IS you need to use good technique. The DOF requires proper focus setting which may differ from your normal settings. Take a look over at 43users and look at the native image forum and see the 75-300 images posts - lots of great images.

Well, that's what I was hoping you would elaborate on. The reason I asked is that I spotted your post just as I was on my way out the door to trade-in my 4/3 70-300 for a spanking new 75-300. What do you consider good technique? And can you say are about proper focus setting for DOF? (I don't get to play wth my new toy until tomorrow, so I can read up on it tonight.)

Cheers,

Iain

Take a look at these links:

For Images

For me it's small focus box, 1/1000mm without IBIS and 1/600 with IBIS, squeeze shutter like shooting a gun, use shutter speed and let fstop float. When below these shutter speeds lean against something if you can.

Re: E-M1 Mark II + ED 75-300mm II combination (pics inside)

Thanks, Jeff. I wasn't aware of that other website.

Everything you say makes sense and is technique I've been using for a long time; left hand supports the camera and cradles the lens (I do wish our modern lenses still had the aperture control on the lens rather than the camera) with the right just operating the shutter, and both elbows braced against the ribcage -- breathing out while firing the shutter. I hadn't thought about the floating f-stop. I came to digital from my OM-2 and as a result, I don't think I've ever knowingly used the camera in shutter-priority mode. I don't normally shoot moving objects (or at least, I don't set out to) but the advice to use the electronic shutter is also well made.

Thanks again,

Iain

Some new shots. I found also that the C-AF with this lens works very well with firmware 2.0.

I hope you like it.
