What a surprise...

I've had the 85L MK2 for many years and I only use it for certain portraits on weddings. As I realized that I always tend to use it at 1.8-2 anyway, I figured I might as well give the 1.8 a try. After a 14 hour wedding, you beg for every little ounce you can save.

Enter 85/1.8. This little fellow does an amazing job. The bokeh is good enough and the colors are almost as good. It's sharp wide open, and I find the AF to be very accurate. In fact, I would rate this one just a tad better in the AF department.

I still have my 85L in case I would regret the switch, but I can comfortably say that I probably won't miss it that much. Yes, the 1.2 rendering is state-of-the-art, a bit brighter and dreamy as no other lens. Make no mistake! But if you rarely use it at 1.2, then give this one a chance. I did..
