G7 charger for GX85 battery?

Just purchased a GX85 and obviously it doesn't come with a battery charger.
I am currently using my G7 charger to charge the GX85 battery and everything seems to be going swell.
It doesn't fit very snug and can be easily bumped out, but it does "clip in" and hold.
My question is, is there anything I should be worried about doing it this way (assuming it works and charges on the end)?

No idea and must admit that despite having a G7 size charger, it never occurred to me to try..

Since I wanted an extra battery for the GX80, I went for a battery and charger deal on Amazon and its worked fine so far, although the battery has slightly less capacity in reality than the original. This is what I got from Amazon . I could get four batteries and the charger for the approximate price of one genuine Panasonic battery.

Charging batteries is a complicated process. It can be especially tricky to determine when the battery is full. In theory, there is a risk of overcharging. However, this is relatively easy to notice by observing the battery temperature. If the battery is full and the charger keeps pushing power, most of the extra energy is transformed as heat. Shortly, if the battery gets hot during charging there is a problem.

Another thing is the charging current (amperes). Too much current is not good (either the battery does not get fully charged, or the battery may get damaged in the long run, but I don't know which is the problem). Based on the link below, there seems to be an external charger for GX85 batteries. I would recommend checking how much current it gives (G7 charger gives 8.4V, 0.65A).

As far as I know, the only Panasonic µ4/3 camera that supports USB charging is GX85. It may be that batteries of other models are so much different, that USB charging is simply not possible. If this is the case, there might be a problem.

Battery charged in pretty average time. Shows full in camera. Seems all is good.

I bought one of these and 3 of their batteries (they seem to have run out now), which I'm pretty sure are as near as dammit the same as the DTSE ones you linked to. I'm going to pick up another one, maybe two batteries as my GX80 fair chews through batteries and I mainly use it when I'm traveling and don't like the idea of charging the batteries in camera with unstable mains power (I had so many power cuts it wasn't even funny!) I also charged them via a 1000mAh powerbank and could conceivably do that whilst shooting if I secured the battery in the charger.

OP, I guess what I'm getting at is that if you can't get a solid, conclusive answer, then just buy one of the aforementioned usb chargers for peace of mind.

Found out that my GX80/85 battery is thicker than my GM5 battery, but fits in the charger easily, as 2 dimensions are the same. So far no problems.

Charging is not simple, like was already stated, and it can destroy your original battery.

If it was me, I would just buy those cheap battery packs on Amazon for the GX85. You get some extra generic batteries (which are super handy) and a proper charger.

Chargers for GM and GX7 both work.  GX7 batteries work fine in GX85.

Basically positions of the contacts of all pany batteries are more or less the same.

Theoretically if you can fix GX85's battery firmly in a charger of G7, you should be fine. But any movement that might make the contacts not in good contact might have a lot of potential issues.

2 solutions. 1) buy buy a generic charger for GF3/GX7/GX85 (use the same battery) etc which is not expensive. 2) buy an USB external charger that will not only solve your problem, but also could use USB power bank for the job that might be a direction of to-morrow.

Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/DOT-01-Panasonic-Charger-Camera-DMW-BLG10/dp/B01EM65SDG

My following charger allows me to charge 2 batteries in the same time and also inside my camera bag as well:

Update

I've been using the charger for the G7 batteries to charge the smaller GX80 batteries, both and original and a DTSE or whatever its called, for nearly four years now. I do have a charger dedicated to the smaller batteries but don't use it because I already have six other chargers plugged in to wall and extension sockets.

Anyway there has been no issue whatsoever with the charging, although the cheap DTSE or DSTE battery was found to be slightly swollen in a discharged state in the GX80 today after three weeks in the camera bag. So I ordered two more at £8 each and will continue to charge using the G7's original charger with a spacer fitted behind the battery to keep it snuggly against the charger's contacts.

Re: Update

Is it safe to do so?

AFAIK BLE9 (for my GF3), BLG10 (for GX7 & GX85, GX9 etc) have similar dimension, and BLH7 ( for GX850) has similar dimension except for the thickness, these 3 models can share the same charger.

However BLC12 of G7/G85 is larger such that I need an individual charger for it. Since charging lithium battery is a serious matter (it can catch fire or explode), I won't take the risk on using non fit charger.

For my convenience, I have a dual slots USB charger, which has swappable charging templates, for my traveling. I have 2 templates for each of BLC12 and BLG10 so I could set it up as I needed.

I've been charging the BLG10E in a charger for the BLC12 for four years with no issues. All it needs is a coil behind the smaller battery to hold it forward. It's not rocket science. They charge. They stop charging when full. That's all there is to it.

Obviously its not possible to charge the bigger battery in a charger custom made for the smaller one. It just won't fit.
