at dark, dim ceiling corner. The spider stretches about 10cm. A bit scary.:-O

I would have freaked out. I cleaned up the image a bit to bring out the details. I used ps express on iPad. Mostly auto settings.  So perhaps some post processing.

Re: 550D + EFS24mm: Hairy Spider

That does look better brightened up like that.  When we say 10 cm are we talking about a spider that is about half the size of a person's hand?  That's huge.  The largest spiders I've seen where I live are about the size of a coin, like our US quarter or half dollar.

Your welcome but it's your image, that you took.  When I look at it there may be some focus issues as well as brightening . Can't tell if it is camera shake or a dof issue.  Can't tell if the shutter speed should have been greater or or fstop increased. All in all it's is an image I like. I have come to realize that a lot of the insect image I see have focus stacking and fancy flash setups etc. Well done I say even if some tweaks improve it.

Re: 550D + EFS24mm: Hairy Spider

I think I'd die if I found that thing in my house!  5 cm centipedes are bad enough.

Not sure where you live but that looks like it might be a male Giant House Spider (Tegenaria).

Hmm, that means MOMMY might still be around...

Thanks, Digirame. It was a big one and a bit of scary.

Re: 550D + EFS24mm: Hairy Spider

Thanks for your helpful comments. I think it was the both. Because the spider was on a corner of the ceiling, I had to stand on a small stoll with my left hand leaning on the wall and right hand stretching to take photo with LVF. Not very steady.

By the way, I installed PS Express and it seems an easy tool for quick fix. Thanks.

Thanks. I checked Google and I believe it was a Tegenaria.
