Nikon Coolscan 5000 won't load

Wondering if there's anyone out there still keeping a Nikon Coolscan 5000 alive for film work... (Yes, I know it's 2017 and these were discontinued 8+ years ago. I still augment my digital work with film, and unfortunately Plustek's home scanners don't come close to touching the old Nikons.)

Anyhow, I'm having an issue where my 5000 will not load film strips into an SA-21. The adapter takes the strip, feeds it part way and then immediately ejects it again. The common answer on old forums is to clean the sensors in the SA-21, however I've done that and I've also tried replacement SA-21s (ones I know are loading correctly in a separate 5000) but none of them will work in the problem unit, hence it must be something in the scanner itself.

Any insights are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I've got a Coolscan 9000, but mine was still working as of a year or two ago....

The D850 might be a nice alternative now; I had too much volume to scan, so I built the Duplihood to use with my Sonys, and it worked great. The parametric design is free for you to 3D print yourself.

hello from the future!

Did you find any solution? I am having the same problem with SA-30 adapter, the one you can load the whole film at once.
I'll be glad if you could help.

I would not expect to get a response to your question.
