T6S versus T7I comparison

I have a Rebel T6S and am looking for a camera for my granddaughter who is a beginner but wants a good camera to start. I cant find any direct comparisons to the newer T7I but pricing wise in Australia they're almost the same. Thinking to buy body only as I have a few lens to lend her but maybe get a Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8C OS HSM instead of the usual kit lens. Glad of any advice.

Canon EOS Rebel T6s (EOS 760D / EOS 8000D) Canon EOS Rebel T7i / EOS 800D / Kiss X9i

If I were you, I would choose the T7i anytime above T6s. The DPAF and 45 all cross type AF alone would be a great upgrade.

Nailing Critical focus with Wide Aperture is difficult with rebel cameras, where the Superfast DPAF is a necessity for me now, (50 1.4 & 85 1.8). Also, for Pets, kids, and weddings (just in case), shooting AI-Servo in Single or Zone mode is excellent.

The top LCD and rear thumb wheel is great in T6s, but once accustom to shoot without it, it's not even an issue.

Not sure if Canon offers this in Australia, but here we have the refurbished store which offers some great deals.  The T6s is on sale at a really good price now.

While the newer Rebel models have some improved features, my T6s has served me well and does provide fast and accurate focusing with both Canon and aftermarket glass.  I wish battery life was a bit better, but both models have that same limitation.

You might want to let her handle different cameras to see what suits her best. If she is starting out the latest and greatest may not be the best choice.

The T6/7 are largish camera bodies. She may feel more comfortable with a physically smaller camera and as such be more inclined to use it. I hardly think she will be put off by the technical difference between Canon 18 and 24mp sensors or autofocus speed. If she is interested in video then the tilting LCD is important.

Pretty sure the t6s also has the 24mp sensor.

Not sure why the slightly newer technology would be scary???

Me, personally, I'd rather have the t6s, there really is no way you can work the camera as quickly without the thumb wheel.

That said, I, myself am considering the sl2 because of the size advantage.

Ok thanks for that I will consider it. Any comments on the Sigma lens and would it need the dock or only in the case of focus issues

I have the Sigma 17-50mm f2.8 OS, while it is great when it nails focus, it's a gambling to get a keeper via OVF. And that happens with majority of Sigma lenses. Hence the emphasis to shoot via LV DPAF. If the lens focusing is inconsistent (as in majority of the cases), dock will not help at all. It's better to save up and go for brand lens, either new or used.
