NX1000 quicker than NX3000

Hi guys and girls,

Iv'e been owning the NX1000 for a while, very pleased overall maybe except for the stubborn auto-focus. The other day iv'e purchased a used NX3000 after deciding to upgrade, and while i like the 16-50 OIS lens and flip screen, the NX3000 general operation speed and auto focusing in low light seems substantially slower and less fluid than its grandfather, the NX1000.

Iv'e compared both bodies with the 16-50 lens, and it seems that the NX1000 is able to focus a lot better than the NX3000, I'm mainly referring to indoor.

Once you sweep the camera across an indoor scene, when darker parts of the scene are projected on the screen, the refresh rate becomes as slow as a 2010 smartphone camera viewfinder.

The whole NX-X000 line have a reputation of slow focusing, but i didn't expect the NX1000 to bit the NX3000 in focusing (my logic assumed the NX3000 probably has to have a new processor, the two models are spaced almost 3 years apart).

And it's not only the focusing....the overall operation speed, menu opening speed, zooming in the photo viewer mode, all are noticably quicker in the NX1000.

So what i want to ask you, did any of you compare the 2 models and got into the same conclusion? Or did i just get a lemon?

I haven't noticed any difference myself but I'll do some checks later.

No idea about what's inside your other camera, but one review of the NX3000 says....

"Unlike a conventional DSLR camera which uses a phase detection auto-focus system, the NX3000 employs the same Contrast AF system that is commonly used by compact cameras. Thankfully this decision hasn't resulted in a slow and unpredictable AF - quite the contrary in fact. The Samsung NX3000's focusing speed is on a par with most DSLRs, with an autofocus algorithm that delivers precise autofocusing in as little as 100ms. As well as the out-and-out speed, there were also very few occasions when the NX3000 failed to lock onto the subject, especially when using the centre AF point, which can be usefully set to one of four different sizes.

There are three AF Area modes on offer, including Selection AF with a selectable focus area, Multi AF, and Tracking AF, with Single, Continuous and Manual AF Modes available."
