G12 problem

My daughter's Canon G12 has stopped producing usable images. The below photo is what she is getting. Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks in advance for your input.

Re: G12 problem

Do you get the same image if you download the SD card as that on the LCD? Have you tried another/ new SD card out of interest?

Re: G12 problem

If you go into the menu, is the display normal? You could try removing the SD card then check if LCD live view is still messed up. The G12 is a nice camera. Mine still gets regular use.

Re: G12 problem

My kids are on vacation and don't have access to a computer, but they do have a properly working G10 in addition to the faulty G12.

The menus look normal as well as the previous photos from before the problem.

They took the card out of the G12 and put it into the G10. The bad images were still there, but the card photographed and played back fine in the G10.

Upon returning the original card to the "faulty" G12 the camera bagan to work fine and still does. Sounds like either a loose connection or a bug/dust in the card slot. I suggested that they blow out the card slot, but not to have high hopes for not seeing the problem again.

Do bad SD cards ever act this way?

That's a very odd but interesting fix! Perhaps the G10 reset the SD card? Is that possible?? Although doubt it because assume card not reformatted and just a photo was taken on the G10. As long as it continues to work I wouldn't worry! Sounds like a great outcome to me...

Re: G12 problem

No, not formatted in G10. Great outcome as they finished the trip with the G12 working. Thanks very much for the various ideas.
