Asking recommendation for 24-70mm f/2.8 on 5D IV under 1K

Hello,

Beginner here, looking for a lens recommendation for 5D Mark IV that I am hoping to buy

Settled on a F/2.8 24-70 after giving a lot of thought pondering about the 25-70 f/4  and 24-105 f/4 versions

Per DXO Mark scores - are the below result -

Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L : DXO Mark 24 Sharpness 16MPX

( $850 Old )

Canon EF 28-70mm f/2.8L : DXO Mark 27 Sharpness 19MPX

($550 Old )

Tamron SP AF 28-75mm F/2.8 DXOMark 23 Sharpness 19MPX

($200 Old )

Tamron SP 24-70mm F2.8 DXOMark 30 Sharpness 21MPX

($850 Old )

Looking for a 24-70 F/2.8 Lens. I've been shooting the aps-c and found I tend to take most shots at that range ( around 40-70 ish of the full frame equivalent)

Not including the 24-70 mm f/2.8 L II as that is beyond my budget. ( as max I can spend is $1K). Not looking for a combination just a single lens that I can use to carry around.

Primary usage will be to use for (small family events - Indoor/outdoor), some low light ( camping ),  none of minimum video.

What I like most when looking at a picture most is Bokeh, Color saturation , Sharpness in that order.

The only other lens I have is the nifty fifty which sits right in the middle which I have found to use more than the 18-135 IS USM 3.5-5.6 that I have and would be selling off.

If there are any more info that might help you with your recommendation please let me know.

Have you considered waiting on the new Tamron 24-70 f2.8 G2?  Tamron's marketing indicates it will be just as good as the Canon 24-70 f2.8 II but include a 5 stop IS.  It is only slightly over your budget ($1199 at most places).  It will be a month or so before review are out to see if it really lives up to its claims.  I was debating getting a 5D4 and the Sigma Art 24-70 but after reading Lens Rentals' review I decided to wait and see if the Tamron is better.

Yes, I've thought about the Tamron 24-70 G2. However since this is essentially going to by my first actual expensive lens purchase  , I am thinking of buying something old/refurbished as I think that would give me more value for the money compared to buying something new.

As for Tamron ( current one in market ) I have seen sprinkles of comments as to how people has faced issues; had it not been the case I would have pulled the trigger on the current one but cannot quantify the risk of buying old and then having to pay additional if I get a bad copy that is not covered by warranty.

Thank you for the suggestion.

Be careful when taking that approach. Buying two lenses a year and a half apart is more expensive in the long run.

Don't handicap yourself needlessly. Set your goals, stick to your goals, but be sure to reassess them when needed.

The fuzzy part of the picture counts the most?

Color depends far more on how the camera is set than on the brand of lens.

Anyway, bottom line: go buy a new Tamron 24 - 70 stabilized f2.8

It will work fine.

24-70 f2.8 mkI is a good lens. It's well made with metal parts. Even it is pre-owned, it will last long. I have this for over 15 years, still works like new.

One good copy of the Tamron 28-75 is awesome. Smal and very versatile sharp. And cheap.
