Re: Zoom Creep Lock

No, it does not have a minimum focal length zoom lock. According to my daughter, who has my copy, it could use one. Interestingly, the D FA 28-105 that I have seems fine without one, although it has less run time on it.

You wont get lens creep with it. Too light for that. Excellent all purpose lens.

Thank you for the prompt reply. All my Pentax Zoom Barrels start creeping out when I walk with the camera + lens. I am a Travel Photographer and this is very annoying. Can damage the lens and rattle the elements inside causing lenses to shift off center.

Zoom Creep exacerbates with the shoulder string strap and as the lens ages.

Surprisingly all my Tamron & Sigma lenses have Zoom Locks.

I've never had this issue with a Pentax zoom with the exception of the 18-250 which has a lock.  Among others. I've used the 18-55, 55-300, 16-50, and 50-135 extensively without issues.

I bought some custom silicon bracelets on ebay where I could emboss them with whatever I wanted. I used a silver and gold Sharpie to fill in the emboss. Just place the bracelets so that half of the bracelet is on the zoom ring, and the other half is on the lens body. There is usually room at the front or rear of the zoom ring to allow for this on most lenses.

Re: Zoom Creep Lock

My 18-135 creeps when hiking and the lens points down. Check out my original post, when I used a rubber band to overcome the problem. I tried some of the thicker bands but they made manual focusing much more difficult.

Re: Zoom Creep Lock

Dear John, my Pentax 18-135 WR Lens is the WORST for Zoom Creep. Got badder after some use. I bought this lens brand new from B&H in 2014.

I found no convenient space on the lens barrel where a rubber band - thick or a thin one - can be used. John can you please post a photo of the same on your lens??

These friendship bands are very cheap in Bangalore considering they are made from high quality synthetic rubber + neoprene- 20 to 25 cents each. So I bought some dozen in various diameter and thicknesses + stretching force.

After I changed from a neck strap to a shoulder sling strap the zoom creep on the 18-135 lens has increased.

As I said before all my Tamron & Sigma Lenses have Zoom Creep Locks.

Thanks for posting solutions to all of you.

How do you like the Pentax 18-250?

I have a good copy from 2009.  It is a Swiss Army lens that works surprisingly well for all sorts of things like climbing, travel, outdoor events and concerts, etc. where changing lenses is not a good option and wide to tele coverage is desired.  I've printed to 20x30 on the K20D.  Here's a few shots of concerts and the Galapagos:

I've got many lenses that cover portions of this range with better IQ, but none that do it all like the 18-250.  Sometimes it is the right tool for the job.  Now if only Pentax would issue an upgraded version that was WR with HD coatings . . .

Can't argue with those results. Photos are very sharp! Thanks!
