G10 and G12 questions

I am taking my grandson to an astronomy-photography workshop. I have an SLR and he has a G10 with access to his mother's G12. I understand that maximum shutter for these G models is 15 seconds. Does the camera have something similar to a B mode where we can leave the shutter open as long as we want? I will appreciate your help here and any pointers on astrophotography with a Canon G will also be appreciated.

Re: G10 and G12 questions

If you are up for a little project, you can download the CHDK software for your grandson's G10 and play around with that. It will give you bulb mode for your camera. It is installed right to an SD card, so it does not modify the camera, and is easy to go back to the original settings.

Thanks for the research and for the interesting hacking project. No time before this trip, but we'll see how interested he is to continue in this direction.
