ELPH 180

For a special purpose, I purchased the tiny Canon ELPH 180 just a few weeks ago, and I got three spare batteries and a tiny case for it. After one week of testing, it was OK, so I took it on a trip where it did OK. Upon return, the images were all good, so I reformatted the card and set the camera aside to wait for the next trip.

Then I needed the tiny camera again, so I got it out for a quick test. I pressed the power button, and nothing happened. ( ? ) Again and again, nothing happened. That must be some kind of battery issue, so I popped the hatch open, ejected the battery, checked the battery orientation, and put it back in. Still nothing. Yet the battery was charged.

I replaced that original battery with one of the spares. Still nothing. It was dead on two batteries. Later that day, I decided to try again. I put the original battery in and pressed the power button. VOILA! I replaced it with the same spare battery, and it worked as well.

Now I'm trying to figure out what happened. Otherwise, it is going to happen again. With a lot of camera batteries, there is a spring that provides constant pressure holding the battery against the contacts. On this ELPH, the spring seems to point opposite to that.

Has anybody had this problem before?
