DPP

I have four different Canon cameras. Two DSLR cameras are my workhorses, one old, one new. Then I have a Powershot SX50HS which I've been traveling with and where weight is a factor. Then I have a new ELPH 180 for times like backpacking where minimum weight is a factor. Having returned home from a trip, I had different images from different cameras to get onto the computer, and then I tried to use DPP to process them. DPP 4 was reporting that my images were unsupported ( ! ). I fooled around more and found that one camera's RAW images were supported by DPP 3, but not by DPP 4. The ELPH doesn't do RAW, so all I had were JPEGs to work with. I would have hoped that the newest DPP 4 could have handled everything. Not so.

Re: DPP

DPP 3 and 4 aren't consecutive versions but separate products. It used to be that 4 was the version for DSLR's and the M, and DPP 3 the version for compacts shooting RAW. Only relatively recently have certain high-end compacts been included in DPP 4.

I think that you might be right, however illogical that is.

He is right.  DPP4 was a complete rewrite and only supports current DSLR's and the M at the time it was released, plus any RAW capable cameras that have been released since.  They have also added support for a few older DSLR's.

Re: DPP

I'm glad that I held onto the old DPP 3.

DPP3 isn't old; it's still the current software for a number of cameras. It continued to be developed (for a while) after DPP4 was launched. They co-exist. Don't think of 3 and 4 as version numbers.

They don't seem to be alphabetic versions.
