The OP is clearly wrong in his usage of the word "brittle" when using it to describe characteristics of metal. Rather than recognize and simply admit that it is not the correct word and move on...

BS. I even thanked the guy for pointing it out. You need to move on.

Re: What? Huh?

Lol its a good lens. Just don't expect the same quality as a vintage metal lens or modern high en plastic.

Now I'm even more confused.

Those new little Fuji F2 primes are as tough as nails.  They are built like tanks.

I dropped my 23 F2 from chest high on a dirt trail with rocks and it rolled 3 meters down the hill.

I tested it and it was good....  Sent it back to Fuji anyway and told them about the drop and asked them to check it out.... It was fine.

I have abused the 35 F2 more than any lens I have ever owned.  The thing is indestructible.

The 50 F2 feels like you could beat it with a hammer and it would still shoot.

What am I missing here?

Re: What? Huh?

My dog was biting on my 23mm F2 and he only did the damage to lens hood and bottom cap. Lens is like new.
I would not even know it was the dog if it was not soaked in his saliva
If the lens was plastic and had some rubber parts it would be torn apart

Then I suggest keep using it and be happy

Greg it seems that you are a gear rapist and proud of it.

But I agree with you regarding those lenses. I have no idea what would be wrong with them.

I would not recommend that. Try to limited yourself to dropping and abusing. Beating it up with a hammer might be too much.

One thing I prefer with the XF 50mm compared to the XF 56mm is the higher count of aperture blades. This gives the XF 50mm f2 an advantage at smaller apertures by keeping bokeh balls round.

Not breaking completely but the focus rings on fujis and Sonys tend to get a bit out of shape without any force applied.

Leads to a scraping sound when turned. Annoying for stills, bad for audio.

If it gets out of shape without snapping, this is not brittle - it is the opposite of it - ductile.

Seriously. This banter about the word 'brittle' is why I rarely spend time on DP forums. What little time I spend here, I often think, "If these guys spent as much time behind the camera as they do bantering about technical (and language) minutiae..."

Also, I shot my Fuji 23 lens with a shotgun, drown it in acid, and used it as a baseball for an entire season. STILL WORKS. AS A BASEBALL.

Anyway—most importantly—thanks for the review. Buying a 50mm today.

Oh, good. This train wreck of a thread (95% English lesson, 5% photography related) REALLY needed to be unearthed.

I'm sure the entire forum owes you a big thanks for that. I think I liked it better when it was peacefully sleeping.

Fair point—I could have sent a thank you via DM instead. Thanks for your grace. I'll be more active 'round these parts in a positive way, and more sensitive to unearthing these battered zombie posts.

Cheers,

Dylan

You know? A dead thread is dead unless someone resurrects it. You resurrected it after five months of entombment only to criticize it.  Yet the consequence of your post is to breathe new life into something that you reject.

The primary offense of the OP, in my opinion, had nothing to do with "brittle;" it was using DPReview to promote his Youtube stuff.  He actually provided us little information about the lenses in his "review" here, using DPReview instead as a gateway to try to get us to hit on his Youtube stuff.  The whole thing was lame.  Thanks for breathing new life into something you didn't like.

Guys, thanks so much for bumping up this 6 month-old thread.  It was bad then and worse now.  The only reason I saw it today is because I got some kind of notification.

Have a nice day.  Lobo.... don' give up on DPR because of threads like this.....😨

Yeah, I'd have to agree.  Some dead threads don't need to be unearthed.  Since I am apparently in a "lock 'em up" mood today, I will give this "should have remained dead" thread what it justly deserves.
