Curacao scuba diving (many pictures)
1

Just some from a recent trip to Curacao. Sad to see a lot of damaged / dead coral. But there still were some good patches. Some isolated dive sites, away from the resorts, were still in pretty good shape.

Scorpion fish.

French emperor fish

Moray eel

Turtle feeding from fish cleaning left overs

Seepike playing peek-a-booh

My buddy

Spiny lobster

My buddy again.

Moray eel holding a grudge.

Some brain coral.

Cleaner shrimp

Angel fish. Jittery little bastards.

Buddy with moray eel (keeping her distance)

Fluorescent spunge, spider crab and hermit-crab.

Lion fish (damn good too eat luckiliy)

Some nice colors.

Stingray

A puffer.

Juvenile something...

A peacock flounder

A turtle at the safety stop

Had a lot fun!

Thanks. Somehow I was less pleased with my shots this trip then last year when i went to the Phillipines. I also saw some shots a pro did when she joined us on a trip, that may have influenced my perception, but then again, she had a UWA and a double flash setup, I can't compete with that

Thanks.

It is rather difficult to get a good macro-like shot with the RX100 and the lighting setup I used, a Sealife video light. And those cleaner shrimps and anemone are constantly moving.

Here are some other tries, often already cropped in post:

I think that juvenile something is actually a Pygmy Leatherjacket. I'm not positive - looks like the ones we get in Melbourne Australia.

I googled for the pygmy leatherjacket but it looks different. This fish kind of is shaped as a box fish.

You have to be at the right place at the right time.

But there are spots were they were always present, you did not even have to dive.

Spot the GoPro stick from a snorkler.

Some fisherman wete tossing some fush waste.... turtles everywhere!

You could get really close.

While diving, there was one spot on Cebu, the Phillipines, that had a guarantee to spot them. But yeah, normally, you have to be lucky.

Yep! Always a thrill when you meet one, whether you are snorkling or scuba diving.

Re: Curacao scuba diving (many pictures)

I just got back from two weeks diving in Roatan, and I saw the same shrimp.  Couldn't get nearly the picture you did, because I had my wide angle (16-35) lens on my DSLR.    Still, I zoomed to 35mm, and then really cropped.   I do miss the versatility of having a normal zoom on my RX100 II.

Here's my full-frame shot:

And here is all I could get from that shot with cropping:

Yeah... recognizable... had a lot of these shots as well with my rx00, it was very difficult to get it to focus correctly.

Re: Curacao scuba diving (many pictures)

That focus difficulty was a primary reason for me to upgrade from it after one year of usage, to a DSLR.   I was tired of all those 'fish tail shots' as well as the difficulty of focusing right where I wanted for macro, and right WHEN I wanted as well.
