Canon - Upgrading Camera - Picture Style Question

I'm upgrading from a T1i to a T7i (maybe a 77d) and would like to know if the newer models will save different picture styles for video and photos?

I go back and forth a lot between video and stills and prefer to shoot videos in a neutral profile and photos in something closer to standard. Right now I often forget to change the setting (or I need to take a photo quickly) and end up with a photo shot in a video neutral style.

I shoot in jpg only.

I upgraded from a T1 to a T7. I had stopped using the T1 because it was just ugly at anything above base ISO. You will appreciate the differences in every way between the two cameras

But as to your actual question I have no idea. I have never shot anything other than a raw image with any dSLR I have ever owned in many years. That allows me to skip large parts of camera instruction manuals concerning things in which I have zero interest.

You can download the instruction manual before you buy to see if that answers your question.

Thanks for the reply.  I'll give the instructions a look but it's a massive volume!  My wife has a really strange workflow that has been effective for her but seems complicated.  That's the only reason we still shoot in jpg.

Thanks for the insight on the upgrade.  We love our T1i and it has been so reliable and durable.  Besides the noise issues we are also looking forward to upgrading our video quality and having a more flexible screen.  The videos autofocus is also a plus.

For the models you are talking about the answer is no. There are you C (custom) modes on them. Had there been one, you would be able to save a setting. When I had a 5d iv, there were 3 C modes. One of them I set up for video only. FYI, the 80d has two C modes and the 7d ii has three, I think. The 70d has one.

Thanks.  The 80D isn't out of the question.  It's actually cheaper than the 77D if I were to go refurbished.  We have been debating really long about the 3 models.

In terms of real life handling how much bigger is the 80D than the other two models?

Re: Canon - Upgrading Camera - Picture Style Question

Newer models will take an imported picture style, but as far as having C1-C3 modes, they don't, thus your PASM will inherit whatever your last picture style is just like your T1I does IE T7i / 77D has the same support and quirks on picture styles as your T1i.

I'll second other folks and say JPG + RAW is probably a good idea. I'm a 100% JPEG-er these days but I used to be 100% RAW too. If you have the external hard drive space, and SD card speed, RAWs are very valuable if should ever decide to post process them at a future time, even distant future. I'm still reprocessing old XTi, T3i, PowerShot G1X II, 5DIII, EOS M/2/3 RAWs every now and again for prints. They retain original colors should you desire to tweak them, and WB shifts, as well as carries full resolution with no compression vs JPG compresses and you loose WB post shift and color shifts. When you choose to use an image, either share or print, this becomes incredibly valuable to squeeze every last ounce out of what you shot.

Also consider DPP4, it's free via Canon. Allows you to post process pictures styles on RAWs, not video though obviously.

Oh and you should see my post, I won't search it, but your T1i, if you shoot RAW, and then digest the RAWs straight to JPG with no edits in DPP4, will result in a solid 1 stop gain in ISO handling on your old T1i. It's like having a new camera, for free. Once again, if you have an SD card that can keep up with RAWs and the hard drive space to store em.
