Re: Canon SX50 HS vs Lumix 100-300mm II lens

Hi
I recently purchased a Lumix GX85 as a step-up from my old Canon SX50 HS.
I've just treated myself to the Olympus M.Zuiko 12-100 f4 lens which will give me a lovely range and am looking forward to trying that all out.
The question I have relates to the 200mm+ range which I get on my SX50 (200-1200 f6.5) vs the lumix 100-300 II lens (200-600 f5.6).
Assuming I'm using this range fairly infrequently for occasional wildlife shots, and that I won't be doing any cropping, and that I don't have a ton of cash left now I've blown it on the body and Oly-lens ... do the masses agree spending $650 on this lens is worth it, and that I'll see a significant difference in my resultant shots?
Thanks in advance
Hi,
Also got a GX85 and bought the 100-300 II used for about 400 Euro a few month ago. In good light I get nice pictures, in low light I am a bit disapointed with the keep rate. Don't expect miracles from stabilization although the GX and the lens should harmonize well together. A tripod for sure helps but even then some pictures of static objects are still not sharp although they should. Maybe it is me screwing up but I actually do not think so (short enough exposure, smartphone trigger).
Bird pictures typically need to be cropped even when the birds are getting relatively close. Forget about BIF pictures at full range BTW. Still waiting for that special bird or deer picture I am really happy with, can't seem to get a decent pecker image although this guy is a regular guest.
Also as you can imagine the IQ is not exactly excellent compared with other lenses. So as always this is a compromise you could be very happy with or disappointed, depending on what you need or expect.
I do not use it as much as I was thinking, my favorite is the 14-140 II and primes if I want to do "special" pictures.
So I am not "the masses" but I would be careful. Maybe there is an option to get a used one and sell it if you are not happy.
Good luck and happy shooting
