Sunset on the Tracks. . .
21

The other day, we had all kinds of complex cloud systems rolling through Southern Maine, and then it completely clouded up for a couple of hours.  I had hoped sunset might happen, but had started to lose hope, when it all started to clear out, as quickly as the other cloud systems had passed through.  It was VERY close to sunset and there was no way I could get anywhere very interesting, or so I thought. . .  Until I remembered the railroad tracks about five minutes drive from my house!  So I grabbed my camera and tripod and ran out with my husband to try to capture some of the color.  I was really happy with these!

I also tried a five minute exposure with my ND10 filter, but it was lackluster, as you will see:

Cindy, Simply beautiful and great composition, the tracks lead you right into the sunset.

Great job, Tom W(ret)

Very nice composition. We are simply drawn to the majestic glow. I like the composition of the first one better but the color of glow was more charmingly intense to me too.

Thanks Tom!  I was so happy to be able to capture a sunset, after literally weeks of rain and clouds!  It's been an ugly spring here in Maine, honestly!  Cindy

Thanks so much, Ken!  I only wish I had been able to get down to the tracks about ten minutes earlier, because there was some amazing golden hour glow going in the Eastern sky as well then!  It was just amazing, rare light. . .  Cindy

Beautiful set of sunsets, #2 is my favorite. I do like #3 also, the movement of the cloud helps make a focal point of the tree in the distance.

Re: Sunset on the Tracks. . .

Nice pictures indeed. But I have a question. The last picture (taken @ 30 sec.) would be 300-times more exposed than the previous one. Did you use some (almost dark) gray filter?

Cynthia, Once again some absolutely stunning photos. I guess you were on the right side of the tracks for those shots.

Thanks Peter--I used an ND10 stop filter--it might say 30 sec, but it was actually a 5 minute shot. . .  So yes, VERY darkening!  Cindy

Hahaha!  Yes, indeed!  Looking the other way was the wrong side of the tracks, as it overlooks what seem to be some big oil tanks!  Thanks!  Cindy
