Stretch your budget a bit and get X-T2 + 56mm f/1.2. Just my opinion...

At least here in New Zealand the "little bit" would mean "double". Hardly a little bit 😎

The X-T2 incl the 50/2 is around 2300,00 or 400.00 less than the X-T2 body only. Only shows you in what different income brackets people here on this forum live.

Where I am (Canada) the X-T20 + 56mm is C$2500 and the X-T2 + 56mm is C$3400. So my recommendation is 36% more expensive. Of course a trip to Canada increases the cost.

$ 900 a little? How much is a 23/2 in Canada?? less than 900?

All a matter of perspective right??

There is no just one lens....

There is no such thing as just one lens.  There is no answer to just one lens because of budget unless it's the 18-55.  You don't get an ILC, especially an XT-2 and intend only to get one lens.  That is why I always answer these what lens do I get posts with a list.

Hi guys, i just wanted to get your opinion on which set up to go (coming from 5d mkiii user). I am torn between three setup as my budget allows. First i am eyeing for the xt2 combined with 50 mm f2. Second one is xt20 matched with 56 f1.2. And last the xt20 matched with 50f2 and 23f2. Which one would you reccomend as i often shoot portraits and sometimes fashion. thanks

I also came from a Canon 5D3 and 7 L-lenses. To reduce potential regret, I would go for the X-T2 with 18-55. Then follow Greg's lens buying plans.

The X-T2's EVF is so awesome. I really love a dedicated joystick for AF point selection. Having WR doesn't hurt. If you later need it, you can buy a battery grip with portrait orientation controls, which you can't do with the X-T20. It also has Fujifilm's best continuous AF and 4K video shooting capabilities.

The X-T20's advantages are the significant up-front cost savings and smaller size. If you end up going full Fuji-X, you can always buy a used X-T2 in a year or two.

If you do decide to go X-T20 I can see going 23/2 and 50/2 over just the 56/1.2. But, if you are in love with the Canon 85L, you got to get the 56/1.2.

Thanks,i do love the 85L and 50L (these two are the only thing that holds me back before). The only worry i have is if i will have the same image quality re xt20 and xt2. I've read lots of reviews and they are saying that it is the same. But i wanted to hear it from personal experience.

A lot of good advice here but as usual most have not read the OP carefully in particular the above quote. Given the cost of the the three kits the OP mentions, his budget appears to be about $2000 (US) making many of the suggestions here unrealistic. Marcos seems to have come the closest.

My thoughts, coming from the 5DIII I think you would find the XT20 a bit too big of a change in size and layout. That leaves the XT2 but body alone is $1600 which does not leave much for lenses. The 18-55 at $300 as part of a kit is by far the best value in the Fuji system and probably, as Marcos suggested, where the OP should start.

You were right i'm restricting my budget to €2000 as i don't have that much client like 5 years ago. Used to shoot for some escort website but with the popularity of mobile phones and getting married things got to change 😇.

Thank you guys for all the inputs, i just purchased my new cam. I decided to get the x-t2 together with the 50mm and 23 f2. The way the focusing of the points works blew me off away the xt20.

Well....for starters...

...what do you hope to accomplish with the change?  Loghter body? Different lenses? Different shooting experience?

Your 5D3 can accomplish anything for portraits you'd ever need....so why the change?

I went shifting from 5d3 to fuji xt2 for the main reason of size and weight.

It seems that you haven't held a 5D-whatever with a 24-70/2.8 mounted for a while to ask such an extraordinary question

1165g vs 1755g = 590g difference

As the 16-55 is also on occasion called "the brick" other comparisons are less gentle on the Canon.

The field of view for the 50 and 56 are 80 and 85mm respective to that of the full Frame bodies.  That seems a little tight for a single lens solution if you ask me.

The two best lenses you mentioned are the 56 F/1.2 and 23 F/2 in that order so, that's a tough choice, even if the 56 is about 10 lpmm better than the 23.

I started my kit off with the Fuji X-T20, the 35 F/1.4, and the 90 F/2.  However, the tightness of the 35 (56mm field of view respective or full Frame) is one I now think would have been better served by a 23 F/2 as my first lens.

I would say look at what you want to shoot first and then decide from there.   I shoot my grandkids and friends pictures the most, so I knew I wanted portrait friendly glass.  If you're the same, I would say check the FM forums and buy a nice used 56 F/1.2 for $650 - $700 and a 23 F/2 to stick on the X-T20 body.  Then you'll really have an awesome experience with the brand starting off.

I've used the gear in Question extensively.  I asked the Op why because he originally hadnt mentioned it.  Size and weight isn't on everyones list for reasons to switch....that is why I asked. I don't need pictures of the a camera thanks.

Hi Irvin

l am a Nikon ff shooter, D600 and various lenses. Like you l was a bit tired of the weight and bulk of the ff equipment  and bought a X-T1 and 18-55. Nice as a supplement to my ff but l will never leave Nikon for Fuji. l use both systems and i'm happy with that. This could be a path for you as well. Used X-T1 With either the kit lens or the 23 and 50mm. Unless it is too late. Don't sell off the Canon Equipment

Spend less on body, buy the 23,50 crons, then 16/23/35/56/90 ...

I would pick up a T-20 and spend the rest of my available budget on 23/2 50/2 Fujicrons for starters. Then add  the extreme primes based on need.

Having said that I already had the f/1.4 versions, hence find it hard to justify the crons.

Great choice of lens. I would have suggested the XT2 as well. If that's what you want, save up for it, otherwise you'll end up getting the XT20, selling it or putting it aside, and then getting the camera you really want (XT2).

For everyday shooting, my older 23 mm f1.4 rules. It is the single most used lens on my XPro2. That translates into 35 mm which works for me: I know many people go on and on about the 35 mm or 50 mm equivalent, but I've never found 50 mm to work for me.

I did a model shoot just recently with my XPro2 and the 50-140 f2.8. Keep in mind that the depth of field on APS-C sensor cameras is about 1.5 more so an f2.8 is going to look more like an F4. However, I'm not sure you want that shallow of a DOF anyways. I've cursed myself several times how one eye would be in focus but the other isn't when the focus is so shallow.

Right!  I was never going to ditch my Nikon D600 either, until one of my lenses decided it wasn't going focus right with PDAF, but did just fine with sensor based focusing.  Then I tried a Fuji X-T1 and that's all she wrote!  I like that focusing issues aren't generally a problem and the image quality is every bit as good as the D600.

You may find reviews on   " admiring light "   helpful.

As for your choices:

If this is your budget for a few years: lesser body and best glass - 56 1.2 or 23 1.4

If your budget will increase in a year: x-t2 and  the 35 2

The 35 2 is a very good lens. As you get lenses say the 56 1.2 then the 23 1.4 , it will still fit in well. The camera and these 3  lenses comes in at 3lbs.

I just got this set, in the process  I tried the 16 1.4 and the 90 2, weight was the main reason , but size does matter to for travel and street. Didn't try the zoom lenses.

I'm from Canada, Downtown Camera in Toronto has good prices. They have used and are fair and honest. Ask for Stan , he is the owner.

Good Luck
