If someone is breaking the forum rules, don't start fights simply use the "complain option " or send me a PM and they will be dealt with if warranted, recently i have seen people getting accused about multiple accounts which simply where not correct/ true ( admins/ moderators can check that).

Use the complain option wisely.

Either "someone" has multiple acccounts as well ย
or there's an extremely worrying undercurrent of Heepism
about the place, no error. ย

my understanding is that dpr admins can see i.p. numbers, but mods can't, so if that's true, mods won't have much data to work with, for proving the existence of sock puppet accounts... beyond that, simon discussed the problem of determining fake accounts here: https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3641056

as for whether or not something will get done about it, i'll point out the "Lieslayer" = "LTZ470" thread that people started on the dpr site feedback forum, back in 2015: https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3886191

the thread got deleted, but both of those sock puppet accounts are still alive, despite proof that they were indeed sock puppet accounts, as you can see here:

http://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3886239#forum-post-56297295 (informs people he sold a A7r II using the "Lieslayer" account, then agrees with himself using the "LTZ470" account, lol)

http://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/56287389 (HDR photos by "Lieslayer")

http://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/55347612 (the same HDR photos by "LTZ470")

and no, that's not my detective work, lol, someone who was sick of the trolling pm'd me the links.

Well I did not say it's 100% proof like Simon explained, yes they can see IPs which moderators cannot but the mods will see a list of all posters / names for a certain IP adress.

When in doubt moderaters can ask the Admins to look a bit deeper and yes it's like Simon said it's not 100%, but in many cases it's enough.

Moderators do have enough data to work from/ with, do we have all the tools that the Admins have no we dont.

In your case I can say you're the unique user of that (IP) adress

Is it possible that people stay under the radar, yes it is possible because not always are complains filed or is it brought to our attention.

The person you mention do you still see him posting in the Sony forums ?

Re: ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸsome guidance๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

thx for the feedback, i was just pointing out that reporting it with proof doesn't always get results, even with a dozen people complaining, both in a dedicated thread, and with post reports.

the guy behind those sock puppet accounts seems to have moved on to his other fake accounts

the system does work sometimes, the fun4all account for example was deleted a few weeks ago.

yes, he has another one, it's not forbidden to create a new account if an account is banned, as you know it is in the DPR forum rules.

If people use two or more accounts in an active form they will be deleted.

I am not at liberty to show you what we see, the fun. ... account is a good example and I could tell you +/- how many revoked accounts he had ( around 100) which I all can see.

Sometimes it's obvious from writing style or wording that is used to know who the user is.

yes, some helpful posters have had their accounts deleted, and come back under other usernames.

it's a reasonable rule.

If people use two or more accounts in an active form they will be deleted.

that could explain why those two troll accounts were not deleted... once he saw that the jig was up, he let one account go dormant, and then eventually both of 'em.

one person making up 100 sock puppet accounts is mental illness! lol

Well we have more options : temp ban (7 days), forum ban (no longer able to post in an certain forum) and of course the permanent ban.

Well it's an DPR addiction I'll guess ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜† ( no medication for it yet).

Well it's called attention seeking, most likely they have no social life.

Some have no lives or social contacts and spout their nonsense on DPR, I only can feel sorry for them.

I think it's really amazing that the A9 is getting so much attention, pro & contra opinions will always be there ๐Ÿ˜‰

A single person's thumb on the contra side of the scale to the tune of 122 posts seems out of all proportion. Especially if the account is one that was created solely for the purpose and isn't actually a 'real person'.

That kind of thing would surely diminish the credibility and usefulness of the forum, no?

Well as most of his posts are in Articles regarding the Sony A9 it's up to the Admins to deal with it, if he had been in this forum I would have dealt with him ๐Ÿ˜‰

Fair comment, and point taken.

Meanwhile, though it's 'interesting' to see the amount of animosity the a9 has apparently stirred up, it can be a bit hard to get a sense of how real and widespread it is (e.g. as opposed to a "some guy sitting on his bed in NJ" effect). I guess time may tell a different story, but for now we seem to be submerged in faux a9 umbrage.
