About missing 4K video. I suspect most people don't own 4K monitors or lack the computer power to pp this material. I believe YouTube doesn't do 4K. So what the heck ?

If a sensible codec is used it’s perfectly editable. The files from the A6300 and Fuji cameras are really nice to work with even on an average spec laptop. Also many smartphones and laptops and consumer TVs offer higher than 1080p resolution with many TVs being 4K. It’s 2017 where even our smartphones do 4K video.

YouTube also goes up to 8K and beyond.

Reason why still not getting one.

You Bad list summarize very well the reasons why I haven't upgraded from my trusty M1 yet.

In the mean time I have purchased other cameras that close the gap in Video, AF and other features, but would love to consolidate to the Canon M series, when and if Canon offer better video and more competitive features worth the asking price.

I own the M6 with the old EVF. A very very big plus is that you can tilt this EVF. No M5 or Sony for me.

I have 4k TV and 4k monitor and I don't care about 4k on dslr, everyone who have 4k tv or monitor knows that you need 60fps in 4k to get moving action normal so all 4K/30fps are just gadget for fun but not for true work - for that you need 60fps..

The need of 4K video in the context of capture devices is not a 4K TV target or the internet.

Is more about quality, creativity and flexibility.
First, Canon is not using in the M series the entire sensor surface to capture video but just a small percentage of pixels, hence the moire artifacts, noise and low dynamic range.

This is obvious when you compare a 1080P JPEG shot from the camera which uses all the pixels to a video frame extracted from a M5 1080P video, the quality is not even close to 720P.

Also you have the option to zoom or reframe a video post capture in editing when the source is 4K

In other words, if you want high quality finished 1080P video, you need to capture at least at 4K resolution.

The last thing I want in a camera is video.  Wish Canon would produce a good small camera that devoted all its features and memory to still photographs.  People that want video can buy a movie camera.
