My Touch Screen is Unresponsive!

Hello everyone,

I own a Panasonic Lumix GH4, and as of Sunday May 21, 2017, my touch screen has not been responsive to my touch. As of Wednesday, May 24, 2017 as I was filming, I've noticed my screen went completely black even when the camera is on. I tried pressed the display button and live view button, but no luck of seeing anything on the screen, and still no response to touch. I can only operate this camera through the view finder, which sucks, I've also reset my camera and changed my battery. Still nothing. What could be the problem? I need help! I hope my screen doesn't need to be prepared.

Used it for years? Buy new or buy used?

If you used it for years, might be service time. Please understand our cameras are merely a piece of sophisticated electronic equipment which might go wrong. If it is bought from a local authorized dealer, likely Pany might inspect it free of charge (true for my city).

If you just buy it, return it.

If buy used, it would not surprise me since who know how it might have been abused by its former owner? I have a water damaged G1 that looked 90% new cosmetically outside,  works perfectly most of the time but will, if bad luck struck, crash that need to remove the battery to fix it (it is dying and might die anytime because of its terminal illness: oxidation of the electronic component due to water damage a few years ago...)

I don't know your camera but have a G85 myself.  There is a dedicated Fn button that switches between EVF, touch screen, EVF+screen on my camera.  If you have that control, check to see that you didn't hit it by accident (I did this once and it took me a while to figure out what I had done).

Re: Used it for years? Buy new or buy used?

I just bought it June of 2016 through an EBAY Seller as "New" it was fine up until this point. I hope it won't cost a lot to repair. I recently registered my product on The Panasonic website.

Yes, I pressed the Fn/LVF button and still a black screen. I've been looking for solutions and saw that maybe the screen "articulation joint" needs to be replaced or something. But it appears to work fine except for this screen.

Re: My Touch Screen is Unresponsive!

Hi-late to this thread, but I am on this same boat. My GH4 touch screen does not respond to touch. It did work but then it just stopped working. If anyone has a solution, do please let us know. cheers

(I made an account solely to reply to this comment as it saved me from crapping myself) THANK YOU SO MUCH!! Very new to cameras and this is my first and had it less than a couple of weeks. Thought I had broken it or something.

The function button you refer to is on the top left of the back of the unit labelled as Fn5 next to an LVF marking.

Thank you again, you rock!

You made an account to respond to someone who hasn't been around for 8 months and the post was made a year and a half ago.

OK then.

I'll suggest, next time you feel close to crapping yourself (???) why not download the manual, then read it?  That could work too.
