Pen-F refurbished is on its way!!!
1

I am excited to have come back to M 4/3 from the Sony a6000.   Will be pairing this with the 25 f1.8 Oly I think.   I will be a one lens person, use this for my kids sports (don't need c-af as long as s-af works well), and creative photography, street, etc.

My samsung s7e is my everyday carry everywhere cam, but when I want sheer quality, or to use those special filters, i think I'll have a lot of fun.

If the 25mm FL doesn't work, I'l probably look at the 17mm.

It will take some time to get my camera, but when I get some photos, I'll be sure to share!

Used to have an EP5 before my needs changed, now I think this camera has most of what I want!

Congrats on the Pen F.  What prompted you to go Pen F over the a6000?

Jpeg colour reproduction, the looks of this cam, creative art filters dial, quality small primes.

Big thing is I didn't like my Sony JPEGS, and don't like playing with Raw.  Also, I bought it originally to use with the 16-70, which is decently small, but still too big for me to carry around and felt like a burden.  The 35mm 1.8 Sony has is expensive and frankly i don't like the jpegs so I felt it was a waste of money to even try, but I did toy with the idea.

I considered the Fuji x-t20, but the Pen is more my speed, always liked rangefinder.   EVF quality is a nice plus too.

Now, any idea where I can get a leather case which gives me access to the battery, and covers the lens (either 25mm or 17mm)?

Re: Pen-F refurbished is on its way!!!

I bought and sent back a refurbed silver Pen-F. I had an issue with low lighting condition, where a very bright pixel would show up in the EVF and rear display and was also captured in the image. The other thing was I had updated the firmware to 2.0 before I read there was a bug with that firmware version which causes a lockup. During the lockup I got a black screen, all buttons do not function, turning the camera off and on does not bring it back. You have to turn the power switch to off, and remove the battery. Reinstall the battery and turn on again and the camera functions for a while until it locks up again.

Good thing there is a 30 day return, the bright pixel issue was enough for me to send it back. The lockup issue was just more incentive to do so.

Anyway, don't upgrade the firmware until Olympus puts out a patched release.

Yes, I know about that and will wait for the firmware patch.   Thanks for the heads up.

Sounds like this bright pixel issue was isolated though to that cam, not read of this being a bigger issue...

If its for kids sports I wouldn't have went for the Pen-F, you will need AF-C at some point and its poor. Its the one thing that stopped me buying the camera as a parent myself.

X-T20 would have been my choice, same high quality jpegs, old school look, both systems have small primes, but the X-T20 has much better AF-C

I know it's poor but that's only an issue if you are the spray and pray type!  Low burst in s-af will work just fine for me I'm sure, and at the price I've paid including the upcoming discount I'm going to get on Memorial day (hoping), if I have to sell the camera there would be nothing lost.

This is exactly what has kept me from purchasing a Pen F.  I shoot a lot of moving kids, and am used to having good continuous AF from my Nikon DSLR days.  I'm not happy being limited to S-AF on my EM5ii and much prefer my GX85 or a6300 for shots of the grandkids playing sports.  Now if Oly puts PDAF on the rumored EM10iii, I would be seriously interested in it.
