NX1 issue and ironic moment

I have the NX1 and 50-150 F2.8 semi-permanently attached since the day I got them.  Now that the system is dead, my plan was to hold off buying any other APS-C sports body until this combo dies.  Background:  I have all systems from FF to 1" of all brands.  So, for the past two years, I've been shooting the NX1 strictly for high framerates (pictures not video).

So, two weeks ago I was at Huntington Beach, CA for the AVP and I realized that the left top knob on my NX1 was dented.  I can no longer set ISO from the top button (no big deal) but I'm stuck on multi-frame drive setting.  This must have happened sometime the past two years but I've never even looked at it nor did I ever wanted to move out of multi frame mode.  So, I guess I'm "stuck" (pun intended) shooting only high speed with my NX1.

That's the ironic moment.

Now for the issue:

don't know why but first happened for the first time shooting with the NX1.

When shooting center AF, AF-C, I would get a sequence of three exposures, where one is over exposed, one ok, one under exposed.  I checked and I'm not doing exposure bracketing.  These triplets occurs randomly during the shoot.  No apparent pattern.

On the second day, I switched to center AF, AF-S and the triplets went away but I know get, every once in a while, a dark exposure, completely dark.

I plan to shoot again this weekend so any suggestion?  In all other aspects, camera working perfectly,  correct focus, correct exposure.  Still one of the best APS-C sports body available.

It's amazing, the number of people that drop and dent up these expensive cameras. Sorry to hear that. What's keeping you from taking it to camera repair center or sending it off to one? Doesn't have to be Samsung repair center, perhaps some other camera repair place can repair it for you.

I would hate to be stuck in high speed mode, and curious why anyone would shoot in that as default setting. That's made for only specific instances to use that mode.

Sounds like your camera has more problems from whatever you hit it against, if exposure not working properly. Again...take it to a repair center. Get it fixed in a week and be happy. Or sell it for parts/not working on ebay and buy something else. No one here on this forum will be able to fix those issues for you.

Sounds like the aperture is sticking.

Shooting Aperature priority set at 2.8.  With AF-S and 15 fps, the exposures are perfect but every once in a while a completely black exposure.  I should have looked at the EXIF but I deleted all of them.  Will try again tomorrow if possible.

I have some such issues, but I am not sure if it is mostly in A, my impression is though.

Every now and then I am getting a completely wrong exposed image, not only underexposed, but overexposed too.

Maybe it was happening before too, and you just noticed. I have heard similar experiences from other people, but not all.

I haven't seen this until the last time.  Taken over 10K  so far, not much by sporting photog standards but I have many camera systems so I rotate them.  Until the last time, all images taken were correctly exposed.  I review all images so I'm sure that it hasn't happened until two weeks ago.    So far, it over and then underexposed under A and AF-C, 10-15 fps.  It will have completely black exposure under A, AF-S, 10-15 fps.  All under sunny conditions, shot wide open at 2.8.  Aside from this exposure issue, the pictures are sharp and perfect exposed (the majority thank goodness).

I will try again tomorrow.  I'll test under S and maybe pan from bright to darker scene

I have noticed it from brand new. In normal use the photo sample is too small to really care (or even notice), but when I take a lot of photos, I am aware of it, and sometimes I have to reshoot. It is annoying, and my subjects do not like it!

took over 300 shots all at 15 fps.  None missed.  All were exposed correctly.  What I did do was I removed the 50-1250 f2.8 and re-attached it before reshooting this time.

How cool would a 50-1250mm f2. 8 lens be? ☺

Re: NX1 issue and ironic moment- second try

Since some time (3-4 months) I have the same issue, on program A pictures start to get overexposed.

I turn of the NX1 and after restart it works well. I use the 16-50S. May be I have to clean the contacts that the diaphragm close correctly? I will do some tests soon....

Good idea, I'm going to clean my contacts on the 50-150 also and do some test this long holiday weekend (in the US).
