Can my Canon G9 be setup to capture total eclipse of sun?

I would like to use my Canon G9 camera using the Movie option to capture a total eclipse of sun. Can the camera do this and what are the settings I need to set?

I could be wrong but I think I remember hearing about people having their sensors damaged in their cameras from powerful direct light sources like light shows/lasers, etc. You may want to be careful about aiming the camera right at the sun for a long period of time.

Boy, I wouldn't. Pointing the sensor at the sun for that long might do some serious damage.

The best way to record an eclipse imho, is to project the image onto a white sheet of paper or cardboard with a telescope and aim the camera at that.  The projected image can be any size you wish.  For a video shoot you will need some sort of tracking arrangement of course.
