Having a hard time deciding what to replace KM7D with?
1

I still use my KM 7D but like a lot of people the smartphone camera gets more use as it's always there.

It seems to me I have a couple of choices.

Option 1> sell my existing DSLR stuff, and get something like the RX10?

Option 2> stick with the A mount? I like the A77ii but I am not convinced I would get any better results over the A68?

I like to shoot pets/kids, holiday snaps and I also like the occasional airshow. I am not sure my skills would produce any better shots than a bridge camera like the RX10?

Pictures below were taken recently.I would welcome all comments/suggestions.

Konica Minolta Maxxum 7D (Dynax 7D / Alpha-7 Digital) Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 Sony SLT-A68

Those pics look good to me, if you are still comfortable with the 7D, stay there and keep it, but if you have GAS then you have lots of options. If it was me wanting a simple set up I would prefer the APS-C over bridge (I have both) mated to an 18-200 or 18-300 zoom, I have seen some surprisingly good result from these types of zooms (Nikkors).

Why are you selling? Is it to make room and/ or to help fund Rx10? Whatever you do never sell the M7D. You'll never get it's value + it's an amazing camera.

Back to original point

If your comfortable with Sony body design and don't mind carrying it then the RX10ii or iii will suit needs but then you may need anther camera to cover low light or maximum discretion. Good luck with your search.

These are superb pictures! I don't think you need to replace your 7D. When you want to carry an SLR, that is.
For a cell phone replacement that gives better quality pictures, perhaps one of the one inch sensor cameras that fit in a pocket would do?

Cheers!

Indeed I am fairly happy with the results but feel the need to get something more up to date, better focus, resolution etc. If I go APS-C then the KM7D will go to my daughter. It does appear that maybe I could get some zoom lenses instead of the primes for day to day use and not really compromise on image quality. Certainly if I got the A68 I would have some cash for a lens or two.

They do look good, but I worry I am missing out on what could be better?? the camera is 12 years old, with age comes slow focus, frame rates for action shots etc.

I understand the limitations of cellphone cameras, but it is that device you almost always have with you. This image was quickly snapped with little thought for composition but to me the quality of the image is good, you can even read the sign on the white building in the background, such is the quality of a camera phone.

Good advice. I doubt you could bet much money for the 7D. Buying the RX10iii is probably your best bet while keeping the 7D.

The RX10 is over my budget and the only way to afford it would be by selling my existing lenses(unless I could find a good deal on 0% finance),I do agree the KM7D is worth almost nothing, and my plan was to either buy a replacement A68 or A77ii or sell up for the RX10M3. Struggling to find any good comparisons of the A68 vs A77ii or A77ii vs RX10M3. I am also struggling to find camera dealers with Sony cameras in stock.

With that one, the way the display of the A77ii articulates comes into my mind. With that camera, you can shoot from waist level in porttrait orientation and still look at the display from above. The first time i did that was the moment I understood the hinging mechanism. Amazing.

Ive been in those shoes. The cell phone is always with you -- so a mirrorless camera and a small bag might be the hot ticket. I loved using my A77 but never took it with me anywhere. I got a lowepro messenger 100 bag and my nikon D750 + 50mm F1.8 fits in it perfectly and its a lot less weight then my Sony A77 + 16-50mm F2.8.   the 50mm focal length (full frame) is so good for a walk around lens.  An A68 + sony 35mm F1.8 might be a good setup.

I also really like fujis, but their lenses are big and heavy -- so its not much different then just having a full size DSLR in my mind.   A fuji + 27mm F2.8 would be very discrete and not draw attention which is quite nice.
