NX Mini’s exposure Meter

I wanted to explore street night photography, but I'm on a tight budget so I started looking for a used/old/cheap Apsc or 4/3 sensor camera, but found a NX Mini  with the 9mm-27mm lens for $90 and bought it.

I’m having a hard time getting used to its exposure meter. I know in part it’s my lack of experience with the camera , but after reading some reviews I know it can be finicky. When I half press the shutter on my ZS50 it reliably shows me what the photo is going to look like. That is not always the case with NX Mini. Sometimes, the picture will have a different exposure than what I saw on the screen. Other times if I take several pictures in a row, they will have different exposure with the same manual settings and if I’m using P or Auto the ISO and shutter speed is different on the second photo. Also, in dim light sometimes when I half press the shutter it drops the focus point. If I press the Custom button for the optical preview the same thing happens.

I already updated the firmware. Buying the 17mm lens at this moment is not an option.

Can anyone with experience using this camera share what metering/focus modes/settings the camera handles best in low light and high contrast situations?

Any other tips specific to the NX Mini will be greatly appreciated. I’ve searched the web and haven’t found much info on the camera other than reviews.

Thanks.
