Canon 760D with a Sigma 150 - 600mm lens

Hi All,

I wondered if anyone had used the Sigma 150mm - 600mm contemporary lens on a 760D.

Looking for a super zoom telephoto but on a budget and wondered if anyone had experience with this lens.

Thanks Andy.

Re: Canon 760D with a Sigma 150 - 600mm lens

A few of us are taking pictures with Canon DSLR crop cameras with the Tamron 150-600mm lens. That one is similar to the Sigma 150-600mm lens. I'm using the G1 (earlier) version.  People will argue about which one is better, but they are both about the same.  It depends on the copy.

Here's one sample I took with my Canon T3i (600D) camera.  There's hundreds more samples on the weekly Show Your Snaps thread.  Mocha123 is also using a Tamron 150-600mm lens with his Canon 7D Mark II camera (if I remember correctly).

I use the 760D with the Sigma lens for bird photography, I think it's a great combination for this.

Based on some of the results I've seen posted here, I went with the Tamron.  I think both the Tamron and Sigma are pretty close in performance, but my own experience is only with the Tamron.

There are usually a few used ones on eBay all the time, so that may be a less expensive way of getting one of these lenses.  With either lens, expect a steep learning curve until you find the appropriate settings for the type of shots you're taking.  Depth of field is very tight and focus is critical but, when you get into that sweet spot, the results can be very impressive.

Many thanks for your feedback everyone.
The images look good from this lens, especially with the budget i have.

I thought after reading some reviews the Sigma and Tamron lenses were pretty much on par with each other.

Thanks so much for sharing your images, they look great and i'd be very happy if i got somewhere near these.

Thanks again, Andy.

Can i ask do you use the USB mount for the lens? I've read a little into this and some people have due to focusing errors.

Thanks Andy.

I do have the USB dock for the lens but have not done any calibration of it as of yet, I don't think it's needed on my copy of lens but I am inexperienced in this sort of thing as well sooooo

I'm not sure ti be honest either, just read about a few people using it. Can't say i'd have a clue how to use it, but sure i could learn,

Thanks Andy.
